I expect I'll be given all kinds of heckling over this, but three such covers, to me, are - "Hazy Shade of Winter" by the Bangles (originally by Simon & Garfunkel) "The Man Who Sold The World" by Nirvana (originally by David Bowie) "Because The Night" by 10,000 Maniacs (originally by Patty Smith)

That's the work of the late Ron Asheton. At 15, I was blown away when, at the end of their set, he just parked his guitar—with feedback ablarin'—face-forward against the amp/speaker stack as they left the stage. It was quite an exit to an impressionable young lad.
