I'm not sure that holds true anymore. The GOP is fully in power now, and a majority of Americans are now in favor of the ACA. If the Republicans kill it and don't replace it with anyone better (the latter conditional's a given), the Republicans will take the blame for screwing the average Joe over.
The Republicans are remembering now that it's one to bitch and another to achieve.
Why would they actually want to get rid of the ACA? It's been the GOP candidates' talisman for a decade.
The Republicans in federal and state governments will do everything they can to make ACA "explode" the way Chief Cheeto wants it to. They would rather have a political win than contributing to improving health care for the people.

Remember when Richard Hatch sat in the tree on the very first Survivor and told them that, when they were through, he'd tell them how to play the game properly?
OK. Now that it's all fallen apart, here's what needs to happen:
Moderate Democrats and moderate Republicans will realize that they can work together and drown out the fringes. They will put aside the partisanship and form their own larger-than-the-idiots'-group core to get some stuff done.
Instead of the repeal/replace chant, it'll be "We're coming together to fix our health care system." And the issue of Dem/GOP won't be the deciding factor in how they vote. There will be compromise, but progress.
This was the event that will cause both sides to realize that they need to stop acting like the calico cats. It'll all happen behind closed doors until the "Reasonable Caucus" is formed, but something's going to start moving now.

True that Congress has been working seven years to write this legislation, and should've been ready for their moment. But now we have to wonder about winners, losers, deal makers, hacks, and closers. If couldn't even get in there and help close this deal how will he deal with China, etc.
Like I said in what was phrased as overly simplistic terms earlier this week......Take the profit out of healthcare and you will have the answer. We are trying to capitalize a social program. It just doesn't work. The only benefactors in the end are the insurance companies, drug companies, lobbyists and oh yeah, the rich!
I know, it's so discouraging. Nothing substantial re: health care reform will happen in the next four years, so we'll have to make do.
Yep, I was safe too when I worked for large corporations. Now the family and I are dependent on ACA and the premiums are rising every year. Are you lumping yourself into the rich? If so then yeah its time to pay up. When its time for me to choose between groceries and healthcare I have no shame in lumping myself in the poor category. The rich squeezed everything out of this dried up shell, its your turn.
Our health care system sucks, but ACA was a step in the right direction. Fortunately, the Paul Ryan/Trump plan is going down in flames.

Anyone who supports the ACA had better hope that the Republicans pass their piece of shit as opposed to keeping the original one. It would be a brilliant ploy on Trump's part to scrap it, keep the ACA and say "hey, we tried". The ACA will then collapse upon the weight of its unsustainability as it was headed towards anyway and the Dems take the blame. Many thanks to Rand Paul and the Freedom Caucus for making this happen. Someday we may have viable health care reform, but because of the broken partisan political system we will have to undergo complete failure and much suffering of the electorate to force it to happen.......or not.
Our state marketplace is actually pretty good, so Im okay with this. Yay states rights!
Yea but personally you would be just fine no matter what and quite frankly so would I because I live a healthy lifestyle and work for a big company, but I hear some people are having trouble paying their enormous premiums or cannot afford coverage at all regardless of the tax breaks or whatever. I truly don't like to see people suffer injustice and that is what the ACA and Trumpcare insures(pun intended?). Not to mention unless they figure this out, you and I will suffer as a byproduct perpetual big ol' tax increases till as the song goes "tax the rich, feed the poor till there are no rich no more...."
