Three takes on the departure of Barney Frank from Congress.  I think I agree that there aren't many like him left in Congress, and whether you like his politics (or the politics of the handful of others who know how to compromise and legislate to get laws passed) or not, it's not a good sign that he will likely be replaced by yet another show pony.

We could use a lot more Barney Franks in today's dysfunctional Congress

The myth of Barney Frank

Barney Frank is Cantankerous and Rude -  and a model for what a Congressmen should be

We know how we got here.  But we can also say why we are still stuck and not moving forward, eh ?

Of course, I also believe the SC was designed to fail in the first place so Obama could run against a Republican do nothing Congress.

Ok, fair that.  My point was that as stated by Portman, the best the D's had to offer was a net $200 B reduction in spending over 10 years assuming the stated goal of $ 1.2 T in cuts.  We aren't going to reduce spending by implementing tax increases are we ?  Tell me how that works.

Of course, we don't know the total of or nature of any actual cuts proposed by the D's.  They aren't talking.

Did the D's offer up a $ 1T in spending cuts in exchange for a tax increase of a $ 1T ?  I seriously doubt it.  That would be a net reduction of nothing in terms of spending if that was the case.

Until the D's lay their cards on the table, we can only speculate with the info available as I have so done.

And the Senate hasn't even voted on a Budget in nearly three years and the House hadn't for two years until the Repubs took over this past winter.  The gidlock in Congress is in the Democrat controlled Senate.  The House has passed at least 24 major spending bills including a Budget, yet the Senate led by Reid has just sat on its thumbs twidling his hemorrhoids for the past 3 years.

Oh yes, no question it is all the Democrats fault. The deficit crisis begain in January 2009 (you can almost pin point it to the day, somewhere around the 21st or something) before that everything was gravy. Pretty crazy how we could get into this shape in just 2 short years idn't it?

There was an op/ed commentary in the Washington Post over the weekend penned by all 6 GOP members of the Super Committee.  It started out by saying something like they did not want to point fingers, but then went on to explain why the failure lay at the feet of the Dems.
