moved from some poor jacked photo thread:

I have fine, slippery hair, and a friend taught me how to put it in a bun in a snap:

- Have 2 hair sticks handy.  Slippery chop sticks work (I sawed them off, 'cause they were too long).  Pencils are fun, as long as they don't have a rough edge that will snag.
- Bend forward, hair hanging down, and start twisting your hair.
- Adjust yourself and the twisting so that the the base of the twist (like a rope) will be at the part of your head where the bun will end up.
- Keep twisting 'til it's pretty tight, (you can probably stand up by now) and it will naturally start to twist the twist into a bun.  It doesn't have to be a super tight bun.  I like mine kind of flat, so I envision I'm rolling the twist into a cinnamon bun on my head.
- Now weave one of the sticks into the bun: through the bun, into some hair on your head, back into the bun, back into some hair on your head.
- If the one stick mostly holds it, you've done it right.
- Now do the same with the 2nd stick, and it stays comfortably against your head, without pulling and hopefully with no headache.
- I'll sometimes move a stick if it's pulling or hurting, or I'll just start over if it's not holding together right.  It's so fast to do.

when i was a little girl, i had hair down to my waist, and my mom took me to the "beauty shop" and had them cut it all off.  i was DEVASTATED!
since that time, i have worn my hair in all variations of long and short, and have come to the conclusion that i do not really feel like myself if my hair is too short.

i don't care for the idea that any woman past 40 should wear her hair short because short hair is more flattering as we age.  poppycock!!

i feel that, for me personally, having long hair is one way in which i can express myself.  i have used it as a dance prop, i have braided it, twisted it, and worn it loose.  i even used to perm it back when that was the fashion.

my preference is to wear it loose.

my mom had a white braid down to her waist when she died in her 70's.  i aspire to keep my hair long until the day i die, too.  unfortunately, i am not ready to let it go white yet, though, so i use temporary dye once a month.  if i didn't, it would be paprika and salt!  (auburn with white sprinkles)

my favorite products are very expensive, unfortunately, but they are what my hair responds to best.  so, as an alternative, i use dove shampoo and conditioner for damaged hair.  my hair isn't really damaged, but that formula works well, and will hopefully keep my hair from BECOMING damaged.

(i used to work in a health store, and all of those brands caused my hair to feel dry.  aveda is the brand i prefer, but at $25 for a bottle of shampoo....YOUCH!!!)

My hair normally is a lightish auburn red/blonde color, but after many years of being on meds it has gotten thin (aka...falling out).  It was suggested that if I darken it up a tad it would look thicker.  So one day, this past September, I grabbed a box off the shelf of a brand I have never used.  BIG mistake.  I went darker alright...think purple/blue black Goth Girl.  It was AWFUL!  I managed to strip some of the color out, but still 3 months later, I am this espresso brown...with GREY!  GREY!  I give up.

It was down nearly to my elbows when I was fifteen.

Several years ago I grew it out again, but it wasn't what it was when I was a kid.  Last spring on impulse I had it chopped off.

It's thin and fragile and I'm generally unhappy with it these days.

After having long hair for quite a number of years, I decided on a change. 14 inches went to Locks of Love. That was back at the end of August, it's already grown out quite a bit.  I think I'll let it get longer again, I sorta miss it. {#Good-vibes}

Mom always encouraged us to experiment with our hair and I have had mine almost every length, style, and color.  For me, it is a form of self-expression and I have lots of fun playing with it.  While most days I'm lucky if it even gets brushed, I do change it up often.  Right now I have a very dark brown blunt bob with huge bangs.  Nothing like the shaggy, flippy, champagne/cinnamon/caramel 'do I had last week.  If wigs weren't so expensive I would probably have a whole collection!

My mom always taught me that personal grooming pays off.

A girlfriend taught me that "no grass grows on the playground."

I pretty much live by those.....

But don't you get COLD?  I have to blow dry my hair or else I would spend all day shivering.  Not that I style when I blow dry.  I mostly just bend over and get the roots and back of my neck dry so I don't feel the wet.  If I went to bed with wet hair I would wake up with the sniffles.

I don't get cold. I'm pretty well insulated.
