Probably easy enough, if you can access the point where the existing cord hardwireyness ties onto some lugs somewhere, and if it's attached in some detachable way.  Both of which are probably the case.

Old dishwasher uninstallation complete, at last. Now reading installation instructions for new unit (that liberal arts education being useful after all). We installed one that was just like that... black goes to black, white goes to white, the copper wire goes to the green ground... and (oh yeah) be sure the breaker is flipped OFF first... its real easy. Srsly call appy if you need him to walk you through it.  Its a piece of cake.

Gotta agree there...I've been the assistant on two such installs.

(She says, skipping form page 1 to page 4, and reading nothing in-between ...)

I've been known to flip circuit breakers that way. No big deal as long as you hold the fat end of the screwdriver and it's one you don't mind arc welding with.

Callum has a slightly different problem—200V mains instead of 110. Not a huge difference tho. Just a slightly larger spark.

Yup.  Ruined a nice Leatherman tool that way, once.  Come to think of it, I was working on a dishwasher!  {#Lol}

Bah.  It's just the surprise and the sparks that get ya.  I've been known to test whether a circuit was hot by jabbing at the wires with a screwdriver.  Cross up all the possible combinations, no sparks and sizzles, circuit not hot.

I recommend this approach for people who are still as young and dumb as I was then.

That's pretty much how I found out about back emf. We had two transformers running in series to get some project charges up. It worked great, then started unplugging it. I unscrewed the terminals of the project, my accomplice turned off the mains and *bang* I'm sitting on the floor with my head in a cupboard
