Ceiling fan installation tip: Do it in the winter. The attic in July especially if you have that blown-in shredded newspaper insulation... um sweating in there at 155° for one hour and I came out looking like a beehive with eyes.

I had my share of nightmare attic jobs, trying to reinforce between studs to install ceiling fans where there was barely room to do anything but slither on my stomach through fiberglass insulation in 140 degree heat. (it gets damn hot in those attics)

Long ago, I was an electrician's apprentice. I was the new kid so I was the one that got to do all the attic and under the house work. I ultimately decided it just wasn't for me.

Yes, if that's a possibility, hardwired directly to the new unit would be a good way to go.

Hey, and I thought of it, too. None of you pro handymen were any help. Bring on the classicists to redo your kitchen!

(edit:) Break over. Back to work. All night, if it takes that. And it may well.

Old dishwasher uninstallation complete, at last. Now reading installation instructions for new unit (that liberal arts education being useful after all). I had the bright idea that we didn't need to use the plug for the new unit at all—instead of installing new plug etc., just use OLD wire to power new gizmo. I hope it works.

Hope that doesn't prove to be somehow tragically ironic.

I believe code has it that the receptacle is not directly in back of the dishwasher anyway, should be unpluggable so go thru the side of the cabinet and install the plug under the sink or somewhere where you can get at it. But if it's a wire-nut-free hookup, screwed directly to the warsher, that's pretty solid.
