mhj, I don't know a lot about him, but how is he an idiot? Are you saying his data, or his view/opinion are invalid?

Would the EPA silence anyone in their ranks with a dissenting opinion of their data?

And now the EPA has its own "Climategate." It is in the report by EPA's Dr. Alan Carlin who was — according to this July 16 letter to EPA Administrator Lisa Jackson — subjected to a gag order.

The March 16, 2009 report by Dr. Alan Carlin says — among other things — that "As of the best information we currently have, the GHG/CO2 hypothesis as to the cause of global warming, which this Draft TSD supports, is currently an invalid hypothesis from a scientific viewpoint because it fails a number of critical comparisons with available observable data. Any one of these failings should be enough to invalidate the hypothesis; the breadth of these failings leaves no other possible conclusion based on current data."

That would be weather.  Climate is long term, say, over about 5000 nights.  So you have one data point out of 5000, which is, as we say in American, a drop in the bucket.

Here's a good resource to learn how to distinguish between climate and weather.

Put into perspective, this looks pretty interesting too.

yeah- the per capita figures are also in the article with the pic I posted- you need to click through for the table.

As to China there was some interesting commentary on the breakfast news says that they were keener to align themselves with the G77 with a relatively tough cap than to give the US concessions for the senate.  Your senate, your problem was the quote.

Or does china see itself better placed to switch to a lower carbon economy in the next 25years than the US?  Because that way they can leave the US high and dry on their own blinkered little corner and start the research and industrial tech oomph to match them?

It is no secret at this point that the US and China are the largest emitters of greenhouse gases. China is thought to have matched or surpassed the US in total GHG emission in the past couple years.
