sirdroseph wrote:Actually, if you are speaking about the people who actually live in these ravaged areas, that is the whole point, the choice is not theirs. Therein lies the problem. sir, just an observation.... The jungle (rainforest) is being razed there. How much is legitimately being done by indigenous people to eek out a living by farming? My guess is that it is a small portion. The flip side is the government/corporate partnerships that are logging and growing coffee, sugar, produce etc. Are these are any of these legitimate? Probably so, maybe co-ops to supply local markets. Are some illegitimate? I say yes. (here's where I usually get labeled a cynic or conspiracy buff) If anyone had followed the link I posted earlier at the bottom of my rain forest destruction post, they would see John Perkins site. He's the former Economic Hitman for the UN's World Bank and IMF. His job was to go into a country with coveted undeveloped resources and offer the government loans to develop that country's economy through said finance and partner with some "preferred" global players. Dangling the carrot of uplifting their country out of poverty and making their politicians fabulously wealthy was often all it took. It looked great on paper. The problem was that it didn't map over too well in the real world. The loans were structured in such a way that default was very likely, and the IMF endorsed corporations were the benefactors. They just assumed control and paid the government/politicians to roll over. Perkins details many such scenarios that he arranged in the past. Perkins' relationships with the NSA and CIA allowed him carte blanche in his negotiations with most governments and almost all went along with the plans. When Perkins came back empty handed, the CIA "jackals" went in and they weren't very friendly. He's long removed from the EHM scene and now has devoted a lot of time with various tribes/shamen in remote places, like the jungles and rain forests being developed(or trashed). He's got several books and there's plenty of video for anyone who wants to know his story. (you can search for UN, IMF loans gone bad an hear some deposed leaders speak about the ills of such behavior) So how do we dislodge the UN, World Bank, IMF, Corporatocracy parasites? Perkins has some ideas. I'd like to wax more, but I've got some previous commitments. I'm sure we'll catch up later. Regards

I avoid contentious thread at all costs,so I had no idea of the implication. I just thought it related to mineral rights getting stolen from Reservation land and thought you might like to see the movie on Hulu.
