Don't know if he qualifies as a celebrity to most, but he was to me.  I missed the announcement earlier this week.

Nobel Prize-winning physicist Leon Lederman dies at 96


He was a genius but able to communicate to just about anyone willing to listen. And he could do it in an way that was engaging for the entire audience and make people want to know about the inner workings of our world.  I am lucky to have met the man in the early 90's at Fermilab just after his retirement as the director there.
