I haven't seen the original. But this just felt tepid to me. I didn't particularly care about the characters.
And much of it seemed like they were doing weird just to seem deep and evocative. (All food is in wrap form - WTF?)

That being said, I can see potential here... but it probably will not receive the extra funding it requires to make it a 'Go'. The retro-schmaltz is fine for a few shows, but it does not convey the surrealism that the original had. And the acting... well, it holds no promise of a need to get better. Sadly. Actually, reading my own review, I guess I thought it sucked. But I will watch a few more episodes, just cuz.
Well, there's only a few left: it's just a miniseries. Personally, I was underwhelmed. (Which is to say disappointed.)

Let me start by saying that I ADORE Patrick McGoohan, and LOVED the original, which I watched when it came out. It was etched in my memory. I rewatched the entire series on dvd.
I almost didn't watch the new one, but I read a good review of it, so I gave it a shot and made it through the first hour. I did like that they changed some integral things (the desert setting for one worked) and didn't just mimic the original (I was glad to not see the uniform clothing, but I sure missed the gripping opening with the visuals and music). It was nice to catch a couple of homages like the slamming the hands on the desk and making the tea cup jump. Ian McKellen is of course fantastic. BUT, it did not catch me, and I think the reason is simple. Caviezel is no McGoohan. He doesn't, for me at least, project that ironic intelligence, and I frankly didn't care about him. So, I'll stick with the original, inimitable classic.
