I took Augusta to see it this afternoon. I am so glad I didn't take Charlie. I enjoyed it, even though I caught myself thinking of a nap a couple of times during the movie. I had almost talked myself out of going because of a couple of the reviews, but I listened to David Edelstein on NPR and decided it was worth a try. Augusta cried and asked some good questions about it and even offered a couple of explanations that had us adults saying "hmmm..." And, most important to me, she realized that even though Max was obviously sorry, he never said so. That was something good to talk about...

I added something to my orig. quote after you replied......the wild things are depressed creatures, and you never find out why. That's gotta be confusing to kids, let alone the entire audience. But OH they were unruly in the best possibly ways!

LOVED it. Spotted Catherine O'Hara's voice right off the bat! So many good lines. So many great lessons and parallels. Such superb acting by that little guy.....and of course the outstanding special effects of the Wild Things' faces. Bravo!  (However, my friend made a good point that WHY are the Wild Things so depressed for seemingly no good reason? Kids will wonder....)

I had to bite my tongue to keep from shouting, "LET THE WILD RUMPUS START!!!" along with Max.

A word of warning to those who get motion sickness easily——lots of handheld camera was used (GOT DAMN IT). I must've had enough anti-vert left in my system (from my Tampa airplane trip) to thwart any full on puking.
EDIT: When I saw Catherine Keener as the mom, I thought to myself, "OMG, Lily will NEVER go see this now."

I'm sooooo glad to hear that people are liking this....I was worried after the review our stupid local movie critic gave it.  He sucks anyway so I really shouldn't have been worried.

I was standing near Sea Haunts when I took this picture. Only back then, it was the only condo complex on the beach. It really was spooky looking
