Last night, eight dairy cows were electrocuted in Monroe, WI. They could have gone to the safety of the barn, but instead they chose to huddle under a tree. The local NBC affiliate aired a photo of the deceased bovines, all in a circle around the shattered tree.
I haven't spent enough time on the farm to call myself an expert, but putting the livestock in the barn when an electrical storm is coming was a no-brainer back when I did herd cattle. WTF?

the neighborhood is one of the highest in the city. gramercy park. it's exclusive actually. it is just the high school. which has a new crowd as of 5 years ago. i guess the high school will change the reputation of that neighborhood.

Greece also suffers from the "God is on MY side" approach to driving. Atr least if he wasn't you get a very nice roadside shrine later. /mrshj logged in incorrectly again

Lazy8 wrote: Inamorato wrote:When I first encountered traffic circles, not only were they alien but I was driving in a driver-sits-on-the-right-and-drives-on-the-left country. Negotiating them now is a snap in the suburb where I live and where they have replaced many intersections formerly controlled by stop or yield signs. Some folks, though, seem to find them baffling intrusions by interventionist government (along with speed limits). I find them a poor use of real estate, pedestrian-unfriendly, hard to plow in the winter, and a real chore to negotiate pulling a trailer. I'm not a proponent of traffic circles but highway engineers claim they reduce the number and severity of accidents. In most suburbs, real estate is not at a premium and pedestrians are an afterthought. I expect the snow plowing is just a matter of getting used to them and probably wasn't much of an adjustment for the plow drivers around here with the profusion of cul-de-sacs making it necessary for any travel over a half mile to be on a county road! Don't know nuthin' 'bout pulling trailers.

That actually sounds pretty interesting, I like shit like that, very creative idea for a story.

He ends up having to survive down in this bizarre no-man's land for months before he's finally rescued. He crawls around subsisting off scraps of food and trash people throw out of their car windows, rats and bugs, gutter water, etc. while multiple lanes of traffic speed by constantly all day and night - just out of sight. I have vowed never to go any closer to the metropolis for the rest of my life unless it is an emergency situation (like my son insisting I take him to a Braves game). I live only 30 miles away from the city limits and fully intend to fulfill this promise!
