Using the sidewalk seems perfectly reasonable. Here in Derplahoma, humans walk in the street with a perfectly good sidewalk six feet away.

Without giving anything away, it was really good. It might remind you of other movies, but it’s different and worth your time.

Ironically it wasn't shot in Palm Springs.
I was looking forward to seeing some of my local stomping grounds in a movie.
I guess I'll have to watch "Palm Springs Weekend" again.
Unfortunately, most of those places in that movie are no longer around.

so when did you climb back out of the water?

We are about a half mile back, and the tanks are on the other side of the fire. I'm sure we would have heard and felt it, but I think we were safe.  My office/shop is about 100 yards to the left of that picture, I'm glad I was home.  We were listening to the emergency radio chatter. It was pretty intense. They had to move the ladder trucks a couple of times because they got too hot. There is also a row of boats right there, I'm going over this morning to see who had damage - I'm sure there will be some melty fiberglass. I heard the hotel (grey structure in foreground) had some windows break from heat.

Well some of that wildlife needs to be controlled.
Rats and mice?

I mostly stay out of this debate because my cat goes outside, but the ecologists claim that cats have a minimal effect on the rodents but a big effect on the native species. Australian native animals are poorly adapted to deal with predators.

I'm sure this is valid, but my immediate reaction is:

a) isn't everything in your land poisonous, bitey, spikey, staby or otherwise generally mean?  How can hello kitty suddenly be the biggest threat.

2) You have a city named DARWIN!

iii) sorry.

Not everything is out to kill you. Sugar Gliders are pretty cute and don't usually go for the jugular.

we're dealing with ferals now too. We rescued 5 kittens and brought them to a foster. We need to trap mom before she goes into heat again. but it's hard to coordinate since a lot of rescues aren't doing feral surgeries right now. Mom has at least 2 friends as well.

We (and at least one neighbor) practice TNR: Trap, Neuter, Return. The city covers the cost of having them neutered, we pay a few bucks to vaccinate them and have an ear snipped. We've been able to accomplish this with 15 cats since we've lived here.

Good for you!

We still have plenty of birds and squirrels around here.... difficult to perceive them as a threat. ymmv

"While most of us love our kitties, free-roaming outdoor cats are a major threat to wildlife. These non-native predators kill billions of birds, small mammals, reptiles, and amphibians each year. Sadly, when wild animals are attacked by cats, their chances of survival are extremely low, due to both the severity of direct injuries and the very aggressive infection that invariably occurs with cat-related injuries, including minor scratches or bites. Even with veterinary treatment, survival rates are very low; without treatment, chances for survival are almost zero!"
