They were down in Baja traveling from Mexicali to Tijuana when the quake hit...

This is the Rumorosa Mountains during the quake showing lots of earth displacement.
We had similar slides in the Little San Bernadinos north of us during and after the Landers Quake in '92.

Some vicious cracks in the highway...

After the Landers quake we had here, everyone thought there were fires started by it.
Come to find out it was just rock slides.
I was working on a house the next Monday after the main shocks of the combo Landers, then the Big Bear quakes.
We had a fairly intense after shock.
When I went outside and looked out across the valley, there was a big column of dirt rising into the air from where the after shock was centered.
It was really weird.

What a bizarre perspective. To see the quake shake the dust up like that.

During the Landers quake in '92, my brother looked out the window, and being at night, he saw lighting flashing!
I heard of that happening but I never have seen it before.

One interesting earth we live on here.

How far are you from the epicenter?

A little over 100 miles.
It shook pretty hard here.
A 100 miles separation really softens the effect.
Nothing like the Landers/ Big Bear or Hector Mine quakes back in the early nineties.
We were a lot closer to the epicenters of those 7.3, 6.8 and 7.1 quakes respectively.
About 40, 35 and 70 miles respectively.

An update on the death toll in Mexicali... 2 died instead of 3.
It really chewed up downtown Calexico.

Thankfully it was Sunday and nobody was there.
It could have been really bad.
Calexico was hit pretty hard with damage.
Thankfully, no serious injuries.

As I type this, we just had an aftershock.
It seems almost all the aftershocks are going in a northwest direction from the main epicenter, in my direction! {#Eek}...

They are over 100 miles away, so it shouldn't be near as bad that far away.

I'm really worried for those closer to the epicenter.
