Tore the whole thing apart, cleaned all the shrouding til it shined and brand new o-rings in the push rod tubes, so no oil leaks and no smelly heat.
The standard Corvair survival tools were a 9/16 and 1/2 wrench and a section of broom stick so you could put the fan belt back on when it popped off. I just used the tire iron to put the belt on. I bought a stock '36 Plymouth Business Coupe after that and had tons of fun with that for the $175 it cost me. I always regretted selling it later to a pizza place called "Godfathers Pizza" who used it to deliver pizza's and totally trashed it in no time.

I've noticed that if I leave my browser open on the RP website past midnight (Central TZ), that the text editor misbehaves, and when I post, I get at least two Japanese Yen characters in my post. I think it might have something to do with a batch (cron) job that must run around that time. I can go back and edit the post to remove the unwanted characters, and fully closing then restarting the browser puts things back to normal. Something to be aware of is your character encoding. There's a setting at the OS level and another for each browser application. There seems to be a push to standardize on Unicode characters. UTF-8 is becoming the standard for the WWW. ISO-8859-1 works most of the time in the US, but mixing the two may be your problem.

My first car was a '60 Corvair in HS. That was apparently the price from 1974-1975. It does seem like it was further back in time than that, though.
