Oh, fer—Christ, B.  You're as welcome here as always.  Do certain ways of voicing certain opinions result in certain predictable responses?  Yes, they do.  One of those (predictable) responses is your being "unwelcome" and "leaving."  Again.  C'mon, man. . . .

I guess I'm not willing to go quite that far. While I do feel somewhat unwelcome (and I often feel it's because I don't choose to stand idly by and be abused simply for being a liberal and a democrat), I don't agree that what those who would love to see me blown into a black hole are seeking is just an ego stroke. I believe they are sincere in their opinions.

Thank you for being you, Zipper.

Once a group of his disciples came to Khrisnamurti and asked him why he allowed his angry and vindictive uncle to live in the ashram with the others who were seriously attempting to become more spiritually evolved.  He replied, "He thickens the plot."

I'm trying to learn to speak my mind without hurting people.  Sometimes I'm more successful than others.

After all, everyone has the right to an opinion and tolerance is not about supporting the right to share ideas we agree with- it's about supporting the right to share even the ideas we abhor. I need to work on myself in that arena, in trying to recognize that the freedom of speech applies to everyone, everywhere, and not get caught up in slinging hate for hate equally when I get frustrated by obvious attempts to make otherwise reasonable people turn to rage. It's a hard road; I have my strong opinions and even my own hatreds, and while I'd like to believe that I'm righteous even when I'm fussing and carrying on at those whose ideals I feel are seriously out of whack, that's only MY perception and might not be as close to the truth as I'd like to be.

And yes, I'm aware of ironies, but I reserve my own right to not only be human and highly falliable but also to speak my mind if so moved.

I agree with Stu - I am intolerant of intolerance - there's plenty of evidence that he has issues against anyone who doesn't think as he does (backscroll - you won't need to go far), that he is reactionary and has no real proactive expression (again, backscroll - see how many pages you have to go before you see a non-reactionary post), and generally, ONLY comes to RP to sew malicious discord amongst whomever happens to be around.

I get sucked intothis stupid shi every time - usually with Beaker (or sometroll like him), and end up taking cheap shots that I pay for for a long time.  I get so pissed off at his bigotry and general menace - it's like I suck up his poison and start propogating it - ak - Don Ruiz is right!

*sigh*

I keep thinking that I've learned better, and then I find out I need to learn more better.

Whose military you talking about, beaker? I thought you posed as being Canadian. Here in these US of A the military is under civilian rule, and therefore subject to the will of the citizenry. That means brandog. Ya know what? It works better than, say, Myanmar. and as long as that is the case, people like you will have to temper your rage with appreciation that there are those with views such as brandog's that help keep the military in check from becoming a ruling and political power. So flail away withyour own propagandist ideals of the military... we here in the US of A will afford you that right, just as we insure that the presence of a military does not define the condition of our freedom by utter reliance upon it. Rather, we hold these truths to be self evident that we are responsible for our freedom, not our military.

He likes sitting in his non-militant country, frothing at the mouth in fanatic support of murder committed by a country he has no voice in, and dreaming of blood & gore & guts & veins in his teeth - probably gets all sticky watching the Abu Ghraib videos and planning on how he can fuck those up who don't share his lust for the death of anyone handy.

Like most ardent supporters of the military, he spends a lot of time preaching about something he isn't willing (or able) to get off his ass and do.

My agenda is a world where people like Beaker are allowed to froth and rage themselves into exhaustion, when, maybe, they might accept some help but, in the meantime have no way to hurt themselves or others.

I'm certainly willing to discuss, debate, and even argue but, I draw the line at threatening personal (be it direct or 'virtual') harm towards another human being, Beaker, on the other hand,  apparently has no such qualms - maybe he should hook up with Pam & they can do us all a favor and do each other in.

I tolerate Beaker's hateful, destructive idiology (spelling is as intended) but, it's tiresome and, in terms of measuring our civilization, and its potential to survive, quite sad.  I do, however, take some pleasure that Beaker's ilk, as a  representational constituency, is shrinking.
