There are two good programs that work in conjunction with Twitter and Facebook: Loopt and BrightKite. The latter is my favorite for now, but they're both good.

Not only do they post text messages, but they location stamp them with a map, and allow you to post pictures with the message. Pretty cool!

Brightkite has a neat feature of posting tweets on a wall that are related to a certain place or word or other text trigger.

For instance, here's the BrightKite wall  with all tweets listed that include the term "RP"

I just registered but I cannot figure out how to add my iphone number. It keeps telling me it has to be 11 digits long but it is only 10 with country code and area code and number. WTF?
