Did her home school have her go through an application process to study at this other school? Did they have an exchange arrangement? Even if this study abroad path was rarely travelled, didn't UW ask why she wasn't showing up for classes, housing etc. at UW?
I wonder if this is due to an idiot department head deciding that the foreign school's standards didn't meet UW standards and kiboshing the deal. Or maybe there's a lot of glue sniffing out there.
I'd be seriously pissed. Yeah, a lawyer may be just what you need.
I'm really not sure what steps she went through; trying not to do TOO much hand-holding but she started the process with the study-abroad person, so ... I'm sure there's going to be some argument that an i wasn't dotted or a t not crossed. *breathe*

I tell her to *breathe* but I fucking hate the evilness of college bureaucracy and oh joy I work at a college now and have to fight it all day.

Yeah and that's what ticks me off the most: They're the professionals but they leave it to the kids or the graphic designers to navigate the minefield.
However, she very clearly had a sitdown with the UW person and said "I'd like to do an art major study abroad in Ireland, what ya got?" and that person scrolled through offerings and found this one and said "ah, this will work!"
Plus the Ireland school's site says in black and white that the credits will transfer. So at no point did either school say "watch out for this gaping pitfall or you're going to have a sad face." I'm giving them a couple of days to work it out (I emailed both schools together and said "sort it") and if they can't get it fixed, I have no problem going right to lawyering up. I don't feel like letting things run their course is a good plan here.

Good luck.
yeah...I was going to say that repetitive harassment sometimes will do the trick. I'd be surprised if there wasn't a very detailed page somewhere in the labyrinth of the website that explained why they aren't going to accept them.
The big issue is paying for the damn credits. It would have cost us $20k less to buy the credits direct from the host school, but the program at our kids school was "run" through their admin. It was a scam....but was better than not going and in the end cost us the same with or without the vacation studying in Europe.

Its real fun here in the Azores getting contractors to actually show up and do something also. I've been here 3 years now and my house remodeling is less than half done. There are so many ex-cowpats here buying houses that they want fixed up that the workers are spread way to thin. The guys working for me do really nice work but I am lucky to have them show up more than 2-3 times a month. When they are here they get a lot done but still its gonna take another 3 years or more to get the place done if I am lucky. Nearly every room in the house is in some middle stage of completion and mostly unusable. There are 3 full bathrooms and only one is functional etc.
Its even worse for the natives as the ex-cowpats can usually pay lots more than they can and the contractors go where the money is. They say if you want a new house built here its a minimum of 3 years. And it will get worse as all the contractors are getting old and usually their kids would work as apprentices and take over but none of the kids want to do manual labor anymore. And there are no schools that teach that stuff here.

Who knew dealing with home handyman types was so fraught?
I installed dad's new toilet after work and told him if the guy comes tomorrow or whenever, he'll have to pull the toilet but shouldn't start the clock until he's done that and actually starts work on the floor.

I guess thatâs something to hope for.
When we remodeled, our electrical guy killed himself. And our drywall guy died from an asthma attack.
During a remodel I had to fire our cabinet maker. Things got a bit ugly and there was some finger in chest confrontational stuff, but he grabbed his stuff and left. A couple weeks later, he shot up a police station in an attempted suicide by cop. He's in jail now, and has lambasted the police for their poor aim. Our next cabinet guy was really fantastic though.

At their homes, not in our house. Otherwise Iâd be selling it for cheap.
Very sad thing was that the drywall guyâs father called our contractor and asked what he had left undone that he was willing to come finish the job.
