For being a holiday offering, I was very impressed with Hugo. I am always amazed at how kids can act, and Ben Kingsley plays the man who made wonderful silent films, the famous one being the rocket shooting into the moon's eye. The 3-d was fun, especially the way it ties a train wreck with the original earliest silent film, when the audience was so amazed that they thought the train was going to jump out of the screen at them.
I want to see it.
I've only seen one relatively recent film in 3D (Avatar) and after the movie I had to sit in the car for 10 minutes while my eyes adjusted, not a good side effect.
I've heard the 3D on Hugo is a step above but I don't know.
My local theater is showing a 2D version which I will probably see.
No not at all but I don't think it is a true silent film which "The Artist" is.

We went to see Hugo today. A charming wonderful film, especially in 3D, although it would also be excellent in 2D. Created by Martin Scorsese, it is an homage to silent film maker Georges Méliès.

I haven't been so moved by a film in quite awhile...not like this, anyway. So very well constructed with poignant imagery at just the right time....great chemistry among the actors, and perfect variety of personalities thrown together....and an excellent soundtrack. In my humble opinion, this was one of Martin Sheen's finest efforts. He is sofa king good. And so is his son Emilio Estevez, who wrote the screenplay and directed the film....boy has he come a long way since The Breakfast Club. An outstanding masterpiece.
Make sure you have a tissue or popcorn napkins handy....
What I didn't immediately realize after watching that video is that he was only 15 at the time - which makes it even more amazing. Frustrating that with all the aid that goes to that area that it took a 15 year old to do what was needed to bring fresh water to his village.
Yes, we have one digital 3D projector in the county. The glasses are quite different from those used in red-blue lens days. There were previews for 3D movies (one with spy hamsters or something) that had the over-the-top, send the object into the crowd effect that is interesting but gimmicky. Up was done with 3D for the purpose of giving depth to the scenery, to the characters. It was beautiful. I forgot I was wearing the glasses. I was looking at the clouds moving by at different velocities and distances, the roundness of Russell, the full depth of the balloons. To me, the 3D technology was used in a subtle and fascinating way. I hope more movies use it with this in mind.
