Thank you Lazy8 for posting that. A few years ago I came across an artist that is carrying on the mountain music tradition.
Riley Baugus from North Carolina, his cd "Long Steel Rail" is a treasure. He is well worth checking out, here's a link to his website.

Here is a video of him performing the song.

And you really ought to. This is some extraordinary stuff, a brilliant songwriter and gifted performer who literally vanished without a trace after laboring in obscurity for years.

Wow. Sort of like the Sixto Rodriguez of folk music.

OMG OMG OMG. I found the coolest thing just now.

The Digital Library of Appalachia.

I know there are a few (I know, a very, very few) that play old-timey instruments out there (Callum...you're into folk music? You may or may not know that the folk music of southern Appalachia comes directly from Britain, Scotland, etc. There are even some tiny communities down here where folks still have weird traces of Scottish accent. Leslie- you still play a banjo or am I halluncinating to think you did that??)

Anyhoo— Theres just tons of tunes you can download or stream. VERY COOL!

Just wanted to share for any old-time instrumentalists or folkies out there.

Thanks M.  There is nothing like roots music.{#Cheers}
