I don't doubt for a minute it wouldn't have happened if he were the President.

After losing the election, he reduced the in-country troops from 13,000 to 2,500.  That 2,500 was achieved just days before the inauguration.   It wouldn't have happened if he'd won...and we'd be stuck with another 4 years of Trump playing the "Great Defender against the evil Taliban" card.  "I alone can fix it".

Trump lit the house on fire and then screams the house wouldn't have burned down if he was Fire Chief.   The only problem with his silliness is that too many actually believe him.

Yeah, if Trump were still in office, it would all have unfolded differently. Something that can never be proven or disproven, like a conspiracy theory.

I think you could pick someone randomly off of the street and put them in charge and it would have all unfolded differently and for the better.{#Eek}

That is not at all what I am saying.  Just talking about Biden's handling of this problem.  It doesn't need to be compared to anything else.  The most previously experienced person ever elected to POTUS to take office and with the bonus of all of his foreign policy expertise. This is his plan and he is executing it all by himself.  It is unfolding exactly as he expected and planned and prepared for according to his repeated statements.  This is Biden's Plan A.  That the best that the USA can do is what we have been and are doing now.  Couldn't have been done any better by anyone else.  Great plan.
.
Or are you saying that it would not be any different regardless of who was making the decisions ?

The omniscient and omnipotent Trump clearly would have known how to handle a group of rural conservative gun-toting god-fearing xenophobic patriots coming for the central government while yelling "Make Afghanistan Great Again!".

Like everything else, the situation will peter out and the media will have something else to go nuts about. But I'm sure the Republicans will want endless Benghazi type hearings on it.

Good point. Did we blame Jerry Ford for the collapse of South Vietnam?

The downside of that for you might mean fewer migrants coming through our southern border ...

Otherwise, we have a little hostage situation taking shape.  Going by how much Obama paid Iran in cash for the 5 hostages, about  $1.5 Trillion ought to do it.

Well we can all take heart in that if this exit occurred during Trump, his execution would have been at least as equally bad and (more than likely) worse given his poor track record of being unable to lead during a crisis. He probably would have put Jared in charge of the details anyway and gone back to watching Fox.

It confuses me a bit. Who are these 15,000 or so Americans still in country, especially those outside of Kabul? I have not seen much reporting on that other than saying they include NGO folk, journalists, and contractors. Journalists outside of Kabul would be small in number. Big media organizations would have plans for getting their people out. Maybe freelancers could be out there. I would have thought the contractors — they work for the American government/military, don’t they? — would have had a heads-up and been out. The NGO folk I can see; they could be all over, and they typically have humanitarian missions. Some/many of them might be inclined to try to stay till the last minute, trying to help.

It appears the Afghans weren't willing to fight, and now the Taliban, a group the U.S. had a large hand in bringing to power, have control.

But at least from a PR perspective, the Biden admin should have been promoting the end is near, leave now or else...

Chris Miller actually said something like this the other day. Said something about it being a “play” by Trump. If true, not sure what it was meant to, or did, accomplish.
