Ii agree, but being a cop doesn't make you not scared of dogs. You either are or you aren't. I have been bitten in the face once when I was 5. There are only a couple kinds of dogs I'm scared of now, but one would be a big one close to me, growling at me. I've never even heard of any training to overcome that fear.

May not be able to overcome the fear but it isn't that hard to read dog body language and determine if there's really any danger. It would probably also help to use Tasers and pepper spray more and firearms less.

Cops shoot dogs way too often. I haven't heard of training for that either but maybe its time has come.

They have also started handcuffing and detaining firefighters at the scene of an accident. With victims still on the ground.

I think it has less to do with the specific training, but the overall attitude. Treat every single person (or animal) as a threat. Treat them as 'the enemy', and take absolute control of the situation, period. It's drilled into them in training: everybody you encounter could mean to do you harm.

I think a dose of pepper spray would have done the trick. Some people are just scared of dogs.

No, I haven't. I did however spend many years working in the field for my current employer and encountered plenty of dogs; not one of which ever bit me. There are ways of dealing with them that don't involve kicking or shooting.

Apparently a lot of the cops in this country could benefit from some training in not being callous rednecks.

The real problem is people just turning them loose around here. I think a couple got in his boat one winter and pretty much schredded the interior. If he can, he traps any that get in his yard. I love cats and we've spent a fortune fixing strays and feeding them but we can't have ten cats in the house, and we can't tell them where not to roam.

I'd start by screaming at city hall and move on from there. I have always been a "keep your pets inside" kinda lady, but killing innocent animals who are otherwise doing no harm is unconscionable. In fact, the murder of animals is one of the telltale signs of larger, uglier problems later on.
