I haven't read Love in Times of Cholera yet, let us know what you thought of it once you're done. I have a tendency not to read novels that have been made into movies, perhaps this one will change my mind.

There'll be plenty of time for looking at the scenery (Sweden not England)- I'm a seriously fast reader and we'll have two small uns in tow who'll be heading off to bed at 7pm. I probably won't need to gaze into HJ's eyes all evening every evening. I don't have much time for reading at the moment so it'll be a luxury too. The kids have specifically expressed a preference for a holiday with less driving and sight seeing than last year so we have a house with a little swimming pool set amongst forest on an island in the Stockholm archipelago. Sounds ideal for some relaxing reading to me whilst they're splashing in the pool- if you page down you'll see I'm mostly taking relaxing books- crime and thrillers etc.

Whew! You had me worried there. Well, Sweden, forest, an archipelago... sounds like the setting for a fine story all on its own. I was just funning you all along. Have a great vacation, you and HJ & the lill'uns.

Natch. Also, it's the only way I'll ever read a Jane Austen novel.

That's as may be, but you have to admit that it's weird. Sometimes the two do intersect.

I proceed into shamelessly pimping books that I was the medical consultant on. Seriously. I'm in the "thanks you"s. I worked out a "reasonable" rationale for folks to appear to be vampires or succubi. Marta was the editor of a webzine that I wrote a music column for a few years ago. She's smart, creative, and lots of fun. She's cornered the Hispanic vampire romantic comedy genre, I believe. Christopher Moore likes her work! These are fabulous summer reading. The top one is first, bottom one is #3 in the series. Click one to order.

MrsHobieJoe wrote:I now have a rather full amazon basket with 11 items- I went and stuck a couple of Gabriel Garcia Marquez in that I haven't read before- "Of Love and Other Demons" and "Chronicle of a Death Foretold". I also put the three I mentioned (including the Kundera one in). Maybe some rationalisation is required with a few books left for our September holiday! I just need to ask... How can you enjoy the scenery of where you will be on your vacation if all you are doing is reading? Don't get me wrong, I have nothing against reading. I mean, is where you vacation so bleak and boring as to be in need of distraction? It is England after all :-) Ok, ok, I'm just kidding on that! don't get all up in arms and 86 me outta your pub extemporaneously. But really... The Brothers Karamazov? Would you like some light reading... say Cosmos and Psyche by Richard Tarnas? Ok. My conflubsteration is expressed. Turn the page.
