Yes, that is the rub.   Even if is affordable, who wants to live in a place with a couple of permanent security guards carrying spears and/or semi-automatic riffles?

Who wants to live where any serious excursion into the hinterland should be accompanied by at least one armed security if not 2 or 3 or more?

i'll visit, hang out for a month or until the trout migrate

Coffee?  Sell your place tomorrow and move to one of those 4 African countries.  The coffee is excellent though perhaps not as good as Colombian medium roast....

Sex?   Lots of it but might be a good idea to be bloody careful.

Mosquitoes can be managed.   Air conditioning is affordable for the materially comfortable and not absolutely necessary if you live on a raised plateau.  Medical care is probably adequate assuming you can afford it.

Uganda.   Spectacular.  Friendly people.  Nice climate.  Mountains on the western border.

unless you have a whole load of hooch, you are not going to get in. Sorry. A friend of my cousin worked in NZ for years under various working visa schemes etc. but has now (over the age of 55) had his applications rejected, despite the fact that is employable and pretty well integrated. He is heartbroken.

Alternative: buy a sailboat and live on it, then you can leave the country regularly and return as you wish, sort of.

"Australian citizens and permanent residents can visit, work and live in New Zealand. You do not need a visa before you travel to New Zealand."

Not that it is easy to get Australian permanent residency but it is a little easier than NZ. Age is still a factor.

Don't knock it.  There might be a great community of bohemian artists, musicians, spiritual folks and philosophers living in remote parts of North Korea that nobody in the west has heard about.

That describes Argentina under a brutal military dictatorship in the 1970s.

This is where I want to live. No road access, no cars, tiny settlement, view to the west and the setting sun, and an active volcano just behind you.
