Key West has tons of feral chickens. I'm in the "love them" camp.

Actually, we do have a problem with gophers and wood rats. They don't seem to care that there's a hawk living here. In fact there was a huge gopher mound at the base of her perch in her weather compound one day. What we need is to put up a barn owl nest box.

I am completely against purposely pitting any animals against one another, if they want to fight on their own, that is fine and of their own choice. Man should not breed, orchestrate and benefit financially from animal combat. However, I totally appreciate the warrior spirit and admittedly love violence for sport in the form of mixed martial arts. I suppose the whole key on what makes one legitimate sport and entertainment and the other morally reprehensible is the exploitation of animals as opposed to allowing warriors to engage in a sport that they love, earn a living and provide millions with the entertainment of two equally skilled fighters challenge their limits. Which brings us to BoBo, he was a proud, muscular, well armed and extremely mean Phoenix rooster who positively terrorized anyone who had the unmitigated gall to step foot in the chicken yard. This guy could been a contenda! He was big, fast, aggressive and had Crocodile Dundee knife sharp spurs that stuck out a good two inches and were only slightly bent to a hook. He was a born warrior who would've been a hero in the cock fighting world. Sadly, he met his demise when he challenged my black lab Amelie, Amelie just let BoBo lie where he was slain without as much as a bite as an example to the rest of the roosters. Very strange, whenever they are fortunate enough to score a chicken they usually gobble em right up!
