Mm-hmm, but here's a photo of Johnny Castle from 2007... could be the same guy but I don't think so. He wasn't miked up for vocals, holds the guitar differently... oh and by the way there's a pron star named that too so be careful out there.

Well...they are in the RP playlist, and Zipper/Zevon love them—-so they've definitely got a national following. Maybe we just don't always hear the comments of fans enough to tell.......but yeah. Mega-talented! She even went all the way back to "Jaxie" over 10 years ago!

Last night we saw the band Man Man perform at the Forecastle Festival in Louisville, KY. They are an experimental rock band from Philadelphia. Their show is very interesting. I have never seen anything quite like it. This is their lead singer, Honus Honus (Ryan Kattner). I would go see them again, but I am not sure I would put their music on my iPod. I think they really need to be seen live to be truly appreciated.

Karen Berquist (singer for Over The Rhine) simply outdid herself tonight, doing old 40s ballads, jazzy lounge stuff, OTR standards (both old and new/elec and acoustic) and all with the accompaniment of the Cincinnati Symphony Orchestra in an outdoor amphitheatre in a park overlooking Cincinnati.

(The CSO also did some of Elvis Costello's symphonic works from his opera "Il Sonio."

She did a great cover of The Eurythmics' "Sweet Dreams Are Made of This" that was unbelievable!

What a GREAT show.

I made my annual pilgrimage to Manchester, TN last weekend for the Bonnaroo Festival.  I was really looking forward to Springsteen, Elvis Costello, Beastie Boys, Neko Case and Lucinda Williams.  They were all fantastic, as expected.  I also saw Grizzly Bear (good songs from a couple of great singers), Merle Haggard (too cool), Santigold (not my thing, but she had some enthusiastic fans), Nine Inch Nails (who were apparantly playing their last ever US show, and it was really very good), Phish (because all of my friends had to see them), the Yeasayers (a band I had never heard of, but they were frickin awsome), moe (meh), Wilco (I'm more of a Jay Farrar guy.  I was not terribly impressed), Rodrigo y Gabriella (fantastic) and Public Enemy (because you have to see Public Enemy, though you really only need to see them once).  A few of my better photos are below.  Understand that I was roughly 4 miles from the stage for some of these shots (Bruce and the Beasties, especially).

What a bunch of great bands! I would have really enjoyed Grizzly Bear, Merle Haggard, and Yeasayer, whom I first saw 18 months ago in a venue that was so small that it once had been a hat/coatcheck room. {#Crowded} They've come a long way from there already and I think they have the potential to really make a mark on contemporary music. Your photos are just excellent!
