Went to the gym to do some training, checked for freelance jobs (there were none) and went back to working on my pet project: an eclectic web radio station not unlike RP. Website is working like RP before the cache feature. Since royalties are too high in Europe, I'm the only listener when I'm not already listening to RP.

Well, the air works in the house. So I'm cheating there.
Though I still sweat profusely most times. Especially when your holding on with your toes.

I'm very small potatoes when it comes to being a contractor... It's me, myself and I.

Yeah. I can never figure out why somebody would design something like this. And my new knees work really good.

No lights in the ceiling. There's funky wall sconces that will be replaced.
I don't care about the painting.
My job is to get rid of the funky "knock down" texture and make the walls smooth.
I bid that stairwell really high.

Do you have to dampen and scrape that horrible texture to get rid of it?  I've had to remove "popcorn" ceilings before and done it that way - it sucks, as you probably know.  What's holding that extension ladder in place - a ceiling joist, the side wall?

It's hard to dampen something when it's painted.
Nope it's all floating . I sometimes I can do it in two coats because I know the materials to use. You'd think after doing drywall finishing for almost 48 years... I'd figured it out by now.
Yep. I've done so many acoustic removals I've lost count. They're my bread and butter jobs... with cottage cheese.
That ladder is resting against the wall. I attached a 2x4 across the window, so when I lowered it down to the next level, the ladder wouldn't rest on the window.
It looks like weird angle there... but it has a significant lean.

My other favorite thought for things like this is "who changes the lightbulbs up there and how much will that cost ?"

Then there is the issue of painting a space like that ... and the reaction ... "It's going to cost how much ?!?!?"

The wife said about $4500 to $5000 to paint that space (just the 3 visible walls, add more for the ceiling) and more than that if there was carpet and other things to tape off and protect.

Well we tried our own spin on that kumquat treat. We used the lime fruit casings but stewed up the kumquats till the skins were gooey- candy like and a bit chewy .Added a touch of salt
and stuffed this into the limes along with a teaspoon of vodka each serve.
Topped off with a shaving of dark chocolate .Best not frozen tho.
Yum !

Citron givré. I imagine kumquats would be too small for this, but I bet you could make a delicious sorbet from them.

hey thanks AliGator, this looks interesting, got a bottle of vodka out back  .We got buckets of Thai limes too, think they would work a treat done like that.
Will report back on this one.

I bet you could use gin instead of vodka if you make a frozen dessert with those limes....
