Quantum of Solace had the highest box office take for a Friday release here this weekend.
Thanks for the news! I know those who picked it for their slates in our fantasy league will be happy to hear this ... particularly since it was such an expensive choice. Daniel Craig makes a great Bond, I like him in every movie I've seen him in too. He was excellent in the role in Casino Royale, I'm sure he will be in Quantum of Solace as well.
I'm looking forward to seeing it, even though I didn't pick it for my fantasy moguls slate
Now now, you're going to get the additional IMDb contribution of Zack and Miri, which certainly won't hurt - unless it scores similarly to Beverly Hills Chihuahua and High School Musical 3 Whether it will be enough of an additional benefit to make a difference for your standings in that category, we'll have to see... Aside from that, you may just lock up Box Office Dollars and Top 5 categories as yours, particularly since you have Quantum of Solace coming up later as well.
I'd love to see Changeling trump High School Musical 3 for the top spot (or even place in 2nd ahead of Zack and Miri), since I'm the only one who picked it. But that seems fairly unlikely. Damnit.
Unfortunately the only people that are within "catching up" distance as far as IMDB scores go have the same movies left on their slates. My path to victory depends on other people raising their Box Office and Top 5 points, causing those with high IMDB and PTAs to drop further down the list, and allowing me to squeak to the top. Complicated scenario but it is my only hope.
Congrats on Changeling! I thought about it but didn't like the trailer. Tried to stick mostly with movies I would actually go see this time. What I really need is a reliable source for info on the number of screens a movie is going to be showing on - that seems to be the key to PTA points.
If the numbers hold I will once again have three movies in the Top 5 and it will help me not one bit. Zip. Zilch. Nada.

Hey Moguls! If you want to have one of this weekends movies on your slate, you need to make sure you have it on your slate before Midnight (pacific time) Thursday night.
More movies are opening than these this weekend of course, but these are the only ones available for selection in our league.
CptBuz runs in place in the lead, having front loaded his studio slate, still buzzing atop the standings with Eagle Eye still contributing well and without any new movies this week ..
EdieRaye continues her climb up the standings into 2nd, adding the weeks big winner High School Musical 3, and with Max Payne and Eagle Eye continuing to perform well beyond their cost, and Beverly Hills Chihuahua continuing to bark up the box office tree weeks after release despite depositing a turd of an IMDb score ...
Mzpro5 drops one slot into 3rd, but stays uptown on East Ave. with Max Payne and Beverly Hills Chihuahua continuing to do well ..
Alt-Ctrl-Tom rides an inertial swing up to 4th, adding the weeks big winner High School Musical 3 and being the only mogul to see Angelina Jolie in a Clint Eastwood directed Changeling and see the PTA point winner (and a nice IMDb score to boot) for the week. Now, if just more people would go see Body of Lies ...
Water slides to 5th, also adding the popular choice High School Musical 3 to high flyer Eagle Eye, but suffering from My Best Friend's Girl underperforming and having an IMDb score roughly equivalent to Dane Cook's IQ...
Lily34 now solely occupies 6th, burdened by the three expensive underperformers Flash of Genius, Body of Lies and W., despite the addition of High School Musical 3 ...
Zipper's fly remains is open, though her Burn Without Reading slacks are quite stylish, as she moves down to 7th, adding no movies this week and getting mostly nominal contributions from those which opened earlier ... Newwavegurly is all alone in the basement, joining the majority of moguls in adding the teen bonanza High School Musical 3, but with the most movies still to open and potentially bring the Spring Season champion up out of the cellar ...
So, obviously High School Musical 3 was the big pick this week - but the 3.4 IMDb score isn't going to cause anyone to spontaneously break into a happy song of cool hair joy. And for those who paired it with other IMDb scrapers like Beverly Hills Chihuahua, or The Family That Preys, or My Best Friend's Girl - you can be happy that the IMDb quality score is only one category
Changeling was a nice add for me - like those who picked Appaloosa and RockNRolla, PTA scores rock - particularly when joined by an IMDb score of love.
Max Payne and Eagle Eye and Righteous Kill are clearly the bargain picks of the season, all doing well in multiple categories despite a low cost.
Most moguls have a few movies left to open, with various choices for the November blockbusters - and of course, all movies released will continue to contribute as the weeks progress ... Hell, maybe even enough people will go see Body of Lies to make it a slow burn choice. It could happen!
With a month left in the Fall Season of RP Fantasy Movie Moguls, the battle for supremacy will wage on...
can't post the update for the standings, because the stats are wrong...
From: Tom Thomas To: support@fantasymoguls.com Date: 10/29/2008 2:00:49 PM Subject: Ultimate Moguls Stats Issues
The stats updated last night, but they didn't include carrying PTA and Top 5 category scores onto the League Summary pages. (They show on the individual studio pages) In checking again this morning, and again this afternoon, this issue continues. For one example, see http://fantasymoguls.com/movies/ultimate/group/view?groupSeasonId=7978. You may already be aware of this issue, letting you know of it if that isn't the case.
Thanks, Tom
... we'll see when they fix it.
Quick response!

Interested in trading some of those PTA points for a few of my Top 5 points? Looking ahead at my slate I am going to get more of what I already have enough of and not enough of what I am currently lacking. Guess I need to work on my balancing act.
Changeling wins the PTA crown with its limited first week opening. (woo-hoo! ) Will that performance continue when it moves into wide release next week? W under-performs (insert joke here) in its second week, perhaps it would've done better had it been released once he was out of office.

To no one's surprise, High School Musical 3 will win the weekend. It was a popular choice amongst RP Fantasy Moguls as well ... perhaps we'd all like to be a teenager with great hair who spontaneously breaks into tightly choreographed song and dance numbers.
Saw V finishes a strong second. I'm sure that there is such a market for "torture porn" says something, but what? Freddy Krueger and Halloweenie Jason would be proud of Jigsaw and those who took up his cause to continue the franchise.
Max Payne and Beverly Hills Chihuahua both continue to produce, contributing again in multiple categories. Max Payne certainly is contributing above its inexpensive cost, Beverly Hills Chihuahua may produce enough in other categories to mitigate its crappy IMDb score. Did they give out recyclable poop-bags at the movies?
Pride and Glory rides the appeal of its stars (and Ed Norton and Colin Farrel are indeed quite appealing) to land in the top 5, exceeding expectations given all the "been there done that" reviews which preceded its arrival in the theaters.

It should be interesting to see how this week's results plays out in our league ...
Hey - if these numbers hold then I'll have three in the top five again this week. But I don't think BHC will survive ANOTHER week - HSM will thoroughly steal their audience leaving little left in its ginormous wake. Meanwhile I can't decide what to do about my rapidly sinking IMDB score. Cross my fingers that the movies left on my slate will rate higher than expected? The problem with that is that everybody else has the same movies so that will cause their scores to go up as well. I tried dropping and rearranging things but nothing seemed like a sure shot. My PTA is sorely lacking as well. Ah well, at least I don't think I'll end up in the basement this time!
You look certain to avoid the basement, and should pose a solid challenge for victory. I don't know how you'd recover from the 2.8 IMDb score which "Beverly Hills Chihuahua" received. What a dog! (snark) Amazingly, it is doing so well in other categories it may not matter ... next season I really need to allow myself to pick a crappy movie that I'd never see which still has mass appeal
It's amazing how much one choice can affect your slate... I suppose the same is true for "real life" moguls. I've just been playing around with mine, and just can't seem to figure out a way to differentiate my slate from others choices positively, and still feel any reasonable confidence that I can recover from the costly under performance of "Body of Lies". I had almost dropped it to choose "Quarantine" - I wish I'd followed through on that! Though it's getting good reviews, there just aren't enough people going to see it. Bastids.
Going forward, I was thinking about using "Saw V" instead of "High School Musical", since it should do reasonably well with its built in blood-thirsty audience - but thanks to all that I sunk into "Body of Lies", it doesn't save me enough money to make alternate choices of value going forward. I'm hoping that "Changelings" single week of limited release before it goes into wide release will get it some PTA points, so I can at least stage a reasonable recovery in that category and climb up the standings a bit.
Regardless, I'm expecting to be a bridesmaid again this season... though I refuse to wear a tacky dress
yeah, you have a good looking slate, particularly considering your current selections for upcoming releases. Nice use of your dollars! Well, Mostly anyway... I mean, "Beverly Hills Chihuahua"? Uh, bark bark *IMDb score* bark bark.

Hey Moguls! If you want to have one of this weekends movies on your slate, you need to make sure you have it on your slate before Midnight (pacific time) Thursday night.
It should be an interesting weekend - a potential teen blockbuster, the continuation of a successful horror franchise, releases by Angelina Jolie, Ed Norton and Colin Farrell, rising star Anne Hathaway as a lead in a suspense thriller, and art-house releases as well for those seeking potential PTA and IMDb scores.
Remember, if you want to have a new release this week on your slate, make sure to get your choice(s) in place before midnight pacific on Thursday ... don't linger in the ticket line and miss the movie
If the numbers hold then I've got three in the top five this week. Read 'em and weep, baby! Yeah, my IMDB score IS in the toilet. Your point?
