We've got a lil neighborhood lake that is stocked with catfish during the summer and trout in the winter.
A keeper caught last winter
Nice! And very yummy. Sounds crazy, but I soak my trout in Sprite before I grill it. Gives it that extra something. I can't remember where I heard that....probably one of my old men friends from the bait shop, but oh my!
I'll keep crapppie and catfish. Just until I have enough in my freezer. I never keep bass or bluegill. I'll keep shellcracker....so delicious. Saltwater, on the other hand...I'm catching stuff and squirting it with lemon and eating it right there on the boat.
at this point i'm generally a catch and release guy
unless i'm in good water and we're dock dining with beers
who doesn't like fresh fish/seafood?

I actually caught that on a fly. It's been years and years since I've fly fished. It was a messy hot mess and I'm glad no one was there to see it.
Edit: I threw him back because now I feel like everything up there are pets. I need to get over it because bluegill is yummy.
Were you holding the line in your teeth and casting the fly with both hands? That could be the problem
Just a few from the past couple weeks. Crappie and saucer sized bluegill. A new breed of crappie with a big black stripe down his back. Not really a new breed. It's actually a black crappie with a recessive hereditary trait that gives them the line. This was a first for me. The big bass is for a little further back, but I was pretty proud of that one considering I was crappie fishing with a feather light combo. It took a while, but I managed to get that big sucker in. The bluegill is from my pond (where there are many, many more like him). The crappie is from the Coosa. I have crappie, catfish, bluegill, bass and shellcracker in my pond.....as far as I can tell right now.
That Bluegill is huge...They fight nice on light tackle.

I caught one of those in Florida years ago. Didn't know what it was...send a picture to dad and he said, "Cut it's head off and throw it in the trash". Bad, bad, bad......
Wait! Were you there? Seems like you were. I know there was a race we went to then went fishing.....We made several trips and always tried to fish when we did.
