I think you can filter your page so that you get the status updates just like before. Look for the new filters on the left hand side of the page and mess around with them until you see what you want on the page.

A nice analysis there - and the comments from users are helpful to point the way for you as you try and decide one over the other.
But why decide? I'm now using both to manage two different accounts. Hopefully over time, one app will adopt the features I like in the other and become the category killer. Each client app has its own advantages. Of course both are still in 'beta' stages of dev, so don't expect perfection from either app. Other apps are also mentioned. Anyone else using a Twitter app they'd like to praise?
I just use Twitter.com when in front of the computer and I use TwitterFon on my iPhone. I like TwitterFon because 1) it's free, 2) new posts since the last time you used it are highlighted, 3) @replies to you are highlighted in another color. Not that any of that really helps you though
Okay. After setting up my own Twitter account last night and giving it a think, I totally get Twitter now. Its your very own personally customized RSS feed of info from those you like to (or want to) read / hear from - or even for monitoring the Twittersphere for comments about topics or mentions of orgs that are of interest to you. (I haven't quite figured out how to do that last bit yet)

To make it really come together, you'll need something like Tweetdeck or Twirl. I'm trying out Tweetdeck right now and I'm liking what I'm seeing.
Thanks - I think I'm going to have to spend a few days reading up on all this stuff and figuring it out. The site doesn't feel very intuitive, as a new user. I'm a bit confused as to how to do things on it. Part of my problem is that I don't learn well by reading about something. I need to walk through it hands-on to grasp it.
So today they push out an update to how the FB pages work — and look — and it totally changes the page I've been working on for the last week - a page sitting at 90% complete - into an entirely different layout.

All good advice — and I've got much of that covered. I'm looking at Tweeting to the FB page too - but want to clarify your comment above. The current FB page is a group page - not really what I want as all group members have to be approved, plus it seems there's a limited amount of things you can do to config a group page. I've been looking at converting the FB page into a fan page, as the FB folks provide a mechanism to do just that. This would eliminate the need to approve FB members following the page, plus open up the page to getting crawled by Google — or at least according to my readings.
Are you saying - that you know for certain, that the way things work right now, either currently as a group, or if I convert the page to a fan page, I won't be able to incorporate a Twitter app to track our tweets? The Twitter folks really need to revamp their FAQ & docs...
I'm saying that I've never seen tweets go to Fan or Group Pages. I have seen tweets go to update real people's status messages on Facebook. But that doesn't mean that it's not possible. *goes to look at Twitter FAQ*
To be truthful, the first follow came after I found a sister org and followed them. Looks like they just jumped on Twitter this month too.
Looking at Tweetie, it appears to be an iPhone-only app. Rats. Not much good to me without the phone.
I suspect we'll start adding the followers in good numbers once we start announcing from the stage that we're on FB and Twitter... and add appropriate attention-getting linkages to same on the website.
OK, so use the advanced search on Twitter to find local folk. And while you can and should announce that you're on FB and Twitter from the stage, there are other ways of getting the word out. Put buttons on your org's website. Find like-minded folk, either via the Twitter search, or a posting on the FB page, or preferably both.
And if you get a few people to friend your deal on FB (or become a fan, or join the group, whatever) that will go a long way. And yes, you can say on FB that you tweet. You can even set up your tweets to go to your Facebook status, if you're an actual entity there, and not just a group or a fan page.
There. The Twitter thingy for the venue is now setup and even quicky-customized. And our first follower jumped onboard within the first 20 minutes. Cool.
Damn - that was almost too easy. Good job Twitter! Now I just need to promote the Twitter thingy via an app & linkage in FB and our website.
Twitter can be a great tool, as I said. Good job on getting your first follow so quickly. Remember what I said about building your Twitter network. I hear Tweetie is great for finding nearby folks. The advanced search in Twitter can also help, if you don't have an iPhone or iPod Touch. I'd suggest checking profiles before you follow local people, though. Also, don't use automated direct messages; those are a total turn-off.
I registered a Twitter account a few weeks back with the intent of using it to post some snark on Rick Sanchez of CNN's Twitter space (he's an assclown with a mike). Never got around to actually saying anything, but lo and behold all the e-mails I started getting notifying me that so and so was now following my tweets. Maybe it was the username I chose...
Twitter looks to me like a huge and potentially lucrative target for spammers.
I only got followed by a couple spammers but by the time I went to block them, their profile had already been pulled. I think most of that was right after I signed up because they somehow found a noob. Other than that, I haven't had any problems at all.

Ha, most of the folks here have already seen my mug. It once caused the servers to crash when I installed it as my AV and people vomited on their keyboards.
This is it, I've met many people from social network sites. Just so happens that many people I chat with don't live close by, often other countries but If i ever did go travelling to these places I'm sure I would hook up with many of them.
And yet, just the other night, we met a bunch of other local Twitter users for face-to-face contact. Imagine that.
