Movie audiences seem to want, or directors seem to want to MAKE, movies that are, well, not that kind of movie. I think it is easier to keep people entertained with bright lights and loud noises, so mainstream movies tend to reflect that reality.
Another reason I'm loath to set foot in a movie theater. Unless it's an Alamo Drafthouse.

I was with friends at some little sawdust floor bar that had milk jugs with tractor seats for bar stools somewhere just out of the Badlands a few years ago. There was an indian fellow sitting at a booth just behind us and some young wanna be, (what I don't know) was attempting to talk to him. Every other work out of the kids mouth was an F-bomb and his sentences all ended with, "Know what I'm sayin?" When he finally left the guy looked at me and said, "I guess they didn't teach grammar where he went to school." We had a few more beers, (it was 104 that day) and climbed back on the scooters. That fellow was pretty interesting to talk to and just folks seems to be the correct description.

Chief Dan George was awesome. I dunno if was a matter of casting or writing or acting or what, but his parts came closer to showing the Native American attitude and humor that I'm familiar with. Rather than being caricatures or objects of pity (or worse, comic relief), his characters were genuine.
