We saw David Ball last weekend, it was an amazing, intimate show. Tightest band I've heard in a long time.

David Ball is the only surviving member of a trio named 'Uncle Walt's Band'. Walter Hyatt, Champ Hood, David Ball.
Hugely influential in the early 70's Austin scene. Lyle Lovett is probably the best-known of their acolytes, but their influence spans far and wide.
Lyle mentions them in 'That's Right (You're Not From Texas)':

Those boys from Carolina
They sure enough could sing
But when they came on down to Texas
We all showed them how to swing

Now David's on the radio
And old Champ's still on the guitar
And Uncle Walt he's home with Heidi
Hiding in her loving arms

Champ Hood died of cancer in 2001.
Walter Hyatt was killed a month before the song came out, in the Valujet crash.

If you get a chance to see David Ball, with Hyatt and Hood kids backing him, just do it.

Thanks, that was most excellent!

That first song was driving me crazy—I know that riff from somewhere. Turns out it's the Wailin' Jenny's Glory Bound:

I saw Bob Seger and the Silver Bullet Band last night in Austin. He did all of the hits and a few covers. He was onstage for a little over 2 hours.

I've loved Seger music since I was a kid.

From the moment he hit the stage with Old Time Rock n Roll to the last note of his 4 song encore Rock n Roll Never Forgets I was transported to the many different stages of my life.

Some of my personal favorites from last night were : Night Moves, Main Street,  Traveling Man & Beautiful Loser, Still The Same, Come to Poppa, Fire Down Below, Her Strut, Turn the Page , and my all time favorite Against the Wind.
If there was only one song that would, and could, sum up my life and all of the different phases it'd be Against The Wind. "I'm older now but still running against the wind."

Excellent show!!!

I feel you on that last thing. I came to them late I guess. A fellow soldier from Detroit played a live record by them for me in Germany in '76 or so. Great energy. The soldier was nicknamed Bird. Apparently as it happened before I got there he got his nick because he jumped out his second story   room window holding his bunk mattress while trying to evade the MP's. He landed in shrubbery below and was arrested in quick succession. I just love that story...
