My wife and I have had it with the way things have been going lately. So we decided to escape reality for a couple of days. Made cheap hotel reservations through Captain Kirk. Left really early one morning, drove up one of my favorite highways...(395) on the eastern side of the Sierras. Stopped in Bishop for breakfast (almost 5 hours from my house). Drove up to Mammoth Ski area because my wife wanted to see it. Commercial disappointment there. We're not skiers anyway. Stopped at a frozen over Convict Lake... Drove back to Bishop and up the canyon to Bishop Creek. Beautiful spot. We even saw a bald eagle. The road was closed at around 10,000 feet. (Still much snow around!)... Went back down to Bishop. We shopped. (My wifes favorite pastime.) (I found a cool Hwy. 395 store too!) Ate dinner and spent the night in our cheap room. Got up really early again and headed for Death Valley. Drove through and stopped at all the interesting spots... Headed home through the back desert roads of the Mojave Scenic Preserve. Stopping at the Kelso Train Depot... And Amboy on Route 66... A great quick trip! Lots of miles. From over 10,000 feet to -282 elevation. (Only in California!) The car got great gas mileage. And we had lots of fun by forgetting the nonsense for a couple of days. I can't wait for the next road trip.

Looks like we'll have to wear long johns and rain gear, but that's okay, we didn't plan on hiking or anything on this trip. More of a driving tour.
I'm hoping. HOPING that my car is done??? Maybe I can have my car back?? It's only been 9 weeks.
Cool! Burlington's where my sister worked for a while, in a drugstore. She got held up. But hey, have fun!

So, the weekend after Thanksgiving, we're thinking of taking 2 nights away. We've got the way awesome hippy vanagon, but we'd need to find year-round camping spot with electric hookup (and borrow some better sleeping bags). Even if we drive straight south for 8 hours, it will still be awfully cold. Even with Global Warming. hmm... maybe we should hit up NYC? maybe too much $$$ Or visit some RPeeps?!? So many options.
