I slept last night in a good hotel
I went shopping today for jewels
The wind rushed around in the dirty town
And the children let out from the schools
I was standing on a noisy corner
Waiting for the walking green
Across the street he stood
And he played real good
On his clarinet for free

Now me I play for fortunes
And those velvet curtain calls
I got a black Limousine and two gentlemen
Who escort me through these halls
And I'll play if you got the money
Or if you're a friend to me
But the one man band
By the quick lunch stand
He was playing real good for free

Nobody stopped to hear him
Though he played so sweet and high
They knew he had never been on their TV
So they passed his music by
I meant to go over and ask for a song
Maybe put on a harmony
I heard his refrain
As the signal changed
He was playing real good for free

So far, my fave LDR song.
Nice!
I've been giving LDR songs an immediate 7 when I first hear them, well today I think I heard some French Horn in the track, and boy what a lovely voice...all worthy to go +1 to 8.  Long Live RP and LDR!!
LDR has a delightful darkness to her "aura."

That, and a beautiful voice.

A good rendition of a great song.

But why sing it like Joni? Joni did it perfectly.

Why not? Maybe she just couldn't come up with something better or even different.
Very nice rendition, but still not quite Joni. But, who is?
Lana somehow gives new meaning to the lyrics and really do hear the song afresh. I love it, thanks!
It's always a bold move to cover iconic songs, Beatles songs, etc. Somehow this misses for me.
Some songs need a cover to bring something new out of them. This is not one of those songs.
Joni's is better.
glad I’m not the only who had to double check to see if this was Joni M.! damn fine work by Ms. Rey

Thats funny, I'm always relieved when Joni doesn't "come on", her music is beyond painful to hear. And unfortunately she's played here way too much. Awful stuff that's dated and unlistenable.

And now I'm happy that this was followed by Joni today.

Man, I could swear that IS Joni Mitchell starting at "Nobody stopped to hear him."

Yep.  I feel like she was like, wonder how close I can get to Joni for a few lines.  Pretty darn close.

I'm inclined to think Joni would approve.

I always enjoy a good cover, but not sure what she is adding or changing here.
7->8
Lana Del Ray. I never know if her sadness is ironic, she seems to epitomise "first world problems" I like to think she knows exactly what shes doing.

Shades of Jennifer Warnes and "Bird on a Wire" (Famous Blue Raincoat).
Nicely done IMO
What a change, from Dylan's "Like a Rolling Stone" to this one from Lana del Rey...
A lovely rendition of Joni's song.   LDR's sound is maturing a bit.  I like it!
She should do more covers....
Kinda always disappointed that this isn't Joni when it comes on...
A soaring sublime song, with all the energy drained out of it. And that vocal fry, and all that sliding around from note to note. Not to my taste.

She's alright but has me yearning to hear some  Natalie Merchant instead!
A good rendition of a great song.

But why sing it like Joni? Joni did it perfectly.

I agree but this was a great cover. So sweet and tuneful, especially the harmonies.

Where is depressing, melancholic and suicidal Lana? This is just like okey i can move on
not bad.

No need.
There is no doubt that she can truly sing but the addition of those harmony swells in production at the end of each verse just threw it all off...for me.  Just a little too forced...for me.
An honest and true version of a remarkable song.
