Lady writer on the TV
Talk about the Virgin Mary
Reminded me of you
Expectation left to come up to yeah

Lady writer on the TV
Yeah, she had another quality
The way you used to look
And I know you never read a book

Just the way that her hairfell down around her face
Then I recall my fall from grace
Another time, another place

Lady writer on the TV
She had all her brains and the beauty
The pictures does not fit
You talked to me when you felt like it

Just the way that her hairfell down around her face
Then I recall my fall from grace
Another time, another place

Yes and your rich old man
You know he'd call her a dead ringer
You got the same command
Plus your mother was a jazz singer

Just the way that her hairfell down around her face
Then I recall my fall from grace
Another time, another place

Lady writer on the TV
She knew all about a history
You couldn't hardly write your name
I think I want you just the same as the

Lady writer on the TV
Talking about the Virgin Mary
Yeah you know I'm talking about you and me
And lady writer on the TV
Lady writer on the TV
Talking about the Virgin Mary
Yeah you know I'm talking about you and me
And lady writer on the TV

Mark's fingerpicking always sounds like sparkling champagne to me.

He is. Mark and Betty were lovers for years.

Not.

Actually, when Mary Tyler Moore had her own TV show in the early 70s and was a Hot Young Babe, Betty White played an middle-aged, acid-tongued TV personality on the show. Off-camera, Betty White was having an affair with Grant Tinker, husband of Hot Young Babe Mary Tyler Moore.

Now that's the stuff you couldn't make up..........or could you?

Has Knopfler/Straits ever done a song that is not nearly identical to this one? Has he ever played a solo that doesn't sound like the one in this song? 3.

Yes he/they have.

Good band, but this sounds like Sultans of Swing. RP is a little heavy on the Dire Straits{#Undecided}
I never grew up, and I still love this song! {#Lol}
I grew up with this song!

It sounds like he's saying "Betty White on the TV."

Wecome back to the 2010 Politically Correct Awards!  Our next category is Most Oversensitive.
And the PCA goes to...

Shaken_Bake, for the comment posted at RadioParadise on May 23rd!

This is Shaken_Bake's second PCA following a win earlier tonight in the category Most Inventive In Taking An Innocuous Word As Derogatory for the same comment.  Quite a night for the newcomer!

Lyrics aren't so hot but what a fab groove.

They are good, competent, and sooo overplayed. A complete and total moratorium on them, say two years, might make them fresh enough to enjoy again.

Indeed. It's just not right that we don't get to hear more bad, incompetent, underplayed bands here.

C'mon Bill. Give Govi's band a break.

Greatness.

I love this. So smooth and effortless. Such a good feeling.

this is older... so, vice versa, if it is that similar anyway!

I LOVE this song.  It gets stuck in my head on a regular basis, so it's nice to hear the real thing instead!  Mark K.'s new stuff is a little on the country side for me, but I still love him and appreciate his genius.

It really is a great song, along with just about everything else he does.  Saw MK in Berkeley last year, and it really was a special show.  Everyone seemed to walk away buzzing.  He has mellowed, but in a good way.

Echoes what Twalker said! Happy Sigh!
Fantastic!!  These guys were so good!
I so dig this song every time I hear it-
YAY!  I LOVE this song - thanks RP!! {#Bananajam}{#Bananajam}

This is excellent, but their first was their best, the Dire Straits LP...I remember listening and listening and wearing out the grooves... Then, as a guitarist, sat there wondering (over and over), how did he come up with that? And that? Whoa, and that, too?
Love this album. It's funny how some of the best albums, the ones that hold up over time, are the least commercially successful. Further evidence that the recording industry actually stifles good music. Imagine where we would be without them.

Great tune especially compared to the tunes artists put out today. Ages well.
I was going to suggest "Follow Me Home" from this album. It's one of two songs that haven't been uploaded . "Single handed sailor" is a cool one!
my first taste of Dire Straits....have loved them ever since.....I love this whole album.......saw them at Red Rocks one time and it was a great night........
I always liked this tune. gets a groove going, and that makes me happy!
I'm a real dire straits fan, and I love this album. But I don't like this song so much, and I can't understand why it was a hit back then? I give it a 6.
