I think in '81, promoting this album at a theatre in London, Ry Cooder had John Hiatt in the band. Around halfway through the set Cooder announced John Hiatt was going to take over for a few numbers. It was a properly astonishing, life changing night. Among other things I have been buying everything by Cooder and Hiatt ever since.
Love them both- sounds like it was a lot of fun. Add to them David Lindley, Jim Keltner, and Nick Lowe and I'd been in heaven

Bill, I'm afraid you're mistaken. Ry Cooder's Bop Till You Drop was the first digitally recorded album. They're both great albums, and both sound great also.

So great to hear Ry Cooder here once in a while. Wore out this album back when it came out, along with the one that came before it, Bop till You Drop. He was an LA musician who was kind of an antidote to the dominant LA scene orbiting around the Eagles, Fleetwood Mac, etc. Great, interesting songs with that infinitely interesting, stellar guitar playing..

I find with Ry, songs that on first listen might not sound like "much." Over time and more listens, turn out to have "a lot."

Chavez Ravine is an incredible album...check it out
