The time has come for us to pause
And think of living as it was
Into the future we must cross (must cross)
And I'd like to go with you
And I'd like to go with you

You say I'm harder than a wall
A marble shaft about to fall
I love you dearer than them all (them all)
So let me stay with you
So let me stay with you

And as we walked into the day
Skies of blue had turned to grey
I might have not been clear to say (to say)
I never looked away
I never looked away

And though I'm feeling you inside
My life is rolling with the tide
I'd like to see it be an open ride
Along with you
Going along with you

The time we borrowed from ourselves
Can't stay within a vaulted well
And living turns into a lender's well
So let me come with you
And let me come with you

And when we came out into view
And there I found myself with you
And breathing felt like something new
Along with you
Going along with you

Such a lovely song! Long live RP! Forever grateful for shaping and always broadening our music culture (probably for everyone here).

Yes!
If it gets any better, I haven’t heard it yet.
This one grows on ya quick.
Such a beautiful song.  The strings add a perfect touch to the song imo.
I say it yet again....Sometimes I can't tell if it's RP or my own playlist I'm listening to!
Yay for us!

Beautiful.
Interesting song that sounds like contemporary folk in 2022.  I guess they anticipated something.
sublime
This is lovely, which is very much appreciated right now.
I've been listening to RP for 17 years, but have not heard this song until today. It's a beautiful tune. Thanks.
I've never heard this before- thank you, RP, and Happy New Year to you both!
This one stands the test of time, for sure.

Yet another Firesign Theater alumnus!!

Genesis - every time RP plays it, for some reason, I have to check again to make sure I rated it a 10, and of course it hasn't somehow slipped down on its own! When I hear this played, I wish there were possibly three songs I could rate higher than 10, and this would be one of them.

I cannot explain in words why I have been such a fan of Jorma Kaukonen all of my life, well since I was old enough to use my parent's turntable. The first records I bought were Jefferson Airplane. I remember my mother telling me, "when you grow up, you won't like this music any longer, you are wasting your allowance!" I tried to explain to her that while I agreed with her that Nat King Cole was a god, I seriously doubted I would ever find Jefferson Airplane to be something that I would grow out of. Needless to say, I never did. I am 60 now and she is 85, maybe I will call her up today and tell her, I never completely grew up.

To this day, this song stops me dead for its duration.

You should just show her this post.  Nice.
JK's follow on album named "Og" is even more tasty.

An 8 for this.
I hear Cat Stevens as well. Guess I'm stuck in the past.

Odd. I hear nothing at all that is even vaguely similar. He sounds exactly like a much younger Jorma. The Cat Stevens resemblance? Nope. Also a vastly better musician.

wonderful deep song, the artist has some Cat Stevens vibes for me, in a very good way.

I remember much but not all of that show also.  The Radiators also performed. I believe that there was one other band as well. 1AM to about 4AM (f not later) at the Flamingo? I clearly remember that there were very few in attendance and you could just walk up to the front of the stage for a while before and then go back to your comfortable seat. Does this help you to jog your memory at all? There were a lot of melodic lines and visions ripping through that Universe that night.

Hmm, dont think they ever played Flamingo...must have been Aladdin in the 80s or Sam Boyd in the 90s.

Lyrical and musical genius. Everything all rolled into one.

A wedding song for many, a song of heartbreak for others. Beautiful just the same. I got to see Jorma in concert for the 60th time since the 70's on Wed. Jan. 13th at the Birchmere for an acoustic hour and 45 minute 17 song set to about 120 of us. What a live concert rarity during these Covid times. Fellow Hot Tuna veterans from back in the day recall the five hour marathon electric sets that lent to our tinnitus of today.  And yes, even now in this solo acoustic performance there was someone in the audience incessantly bellowing Jormaaaa! Hot Fuckin' Tunaaaa! and whistling aloud during his otherwise unfettered performance.  Jorma is 80 but looks forward to getting back on the road along with Jack once Covid restrictions ease.  Also has a new album titled The River Flows recorded with his ranch manager John Hurlbut.  I think you know how to look it up online.
I've never heard this song before. So tender.
This song is so haunting. Nostalgic for things that can barely even be named. Can someone please help me remember what film I saw where I first heard this? Or maybe I fabricated some memory? I just know that I love this and that it conjures up all sorts of feelings and I'm sure I rewound it several times (and researched the artist on my phone) while watching.... something...!! Help!
Jorma can do no wrong. Love the man.

Check out Fur Peace Ranch. His amazing music school in Ohio.

hmmmmm such a beautiful, heartfelt song!  I just love this song and can listen to it over and over.  I have had this album for years.  Fantastic!
Tears of Sorrow...Tears of Joy...Ah, Life.

Naw, the egrets come and go as they please- the loss was my own damn fault.  I couldn't compete with a lost  love from 43 years ago. You live and learn...or you don't. Odd coincidence, she was MrsTom also. And if they ever marry, she'll still be Mrs.Tom.

Jeez Bill, give me a break... first vampires and now this? Thank god I have my own office so people won't see me leaking onto the keyboard on a Monday evening. Still appreciate all you do...Hoping the the playlist isn't a personal reflection for you- wishing you and Rebecca all the best!

BEAUTIFUL song from one of the finest guitarists to emerge from the 60's!
One of my very favorite songs So touching so beautiful 10 10 10
If only the strings were left out. Still lovely.
Perfect; thank you Jorma and long live the original Airplane!
I like, but really I just wanna hear Anarchy in the UK!
Thank you as always Bill!
Merry Christmas Bill! Thanks for the Airplane / Jorma segue today!
This song elicits strong emotions.  Thinking about my 40th wedding anniversary coming up in 4 days.  Life as an open ride "along with you".  Amazing how fast it's flown.
I had this song in mind when my oldest son turned 18 and was moving away.  This whole album is terrific.
A year ago it was said,("A definitive wedding song "),my wife has passed on now,but I know her enough that she would have picked this song and I would have agreed with her Without question. Thank You,Bill & Rebecca

I really agree. The song is complete without the addition of strings and more authentic.
Jorma!

Thank you for playing this, Bill.

Something very simple and moving about this song - very Sixties but it makes me feel nostalgic for a time that I was just too young to have experienced first hand. Bumping up 7 >> 8.
Still

Ahhhhhhhhhhh with a long sigh

Thanks Bill $ Rebecca
People who like this Jorma tune will get a kick out of this video from when he bonded backstage with John Bell from Widespread Panic at the Warfield in San Francisco in July 2000.  Captured as part of a documentary on Widespread Panic called "The Earth Will Swallow You"

The definitive wedding song. Period.

Electric live version on `Double Dose´ from 1978.
Jorma's guitar work on this is absolutely sublime!

Sounds more like a vintage Airplane topped with some chunk-light Tuna to me ... ;)

This is Cat Stevens, man.
muito bom {#Bananajam}
I first listened to this my freshman year of college. Man, haven't heard this in years. Bill, thanks for the blast from the past.
Whether its electric or acoustic, its always HFT
better without the strings

Eggs Ackley, me too
Absolutely beautiful
This was an good album when it came, made in to an amazing album by the dark haired beauty that introduced me to it.bMakes me smile and somewhat heart at the same time. Nice play Bill.

But not really. This song lacks the quirky aspects of Cat Stephens' delivery. Somehow more authentic, although that's about as subjective a way to look at it as any. I haven't heard this in ages and really appreciate it all.

That's probably true, but as english isn't my native langage, I might be missing some of Stevens (had his name wrong by the way!) hmm..quirk? Quirkiness?!

The voice and the tune just reminded me of him! But anyway, I find both great! :)

What an album!
Always and ever brings a tear to my eye. Beautiful, sad song. Brilliant guitar playing, killer lyrics, and soulful, sincere singing. Eternal...
I echo the sentiment of a post below; times like these, hearing this song, I wish I could have kept the good love (and dropped the bad).

Jorma at his best....great collection of tunes.
Very Cat Stevens-esque! {#Clap}
Man that guy can pick just swell.
Memories of a great show in DC where he invited everyone back for the second show.

Great song, great album, wonderful memories of a beautiful young gal that I think I might still have a crush on and occasionally wonder how she is doing but alas I let get away from me nearly thirty years ago...
A beautiful song.  Love the way his picking keeps you "moving" along in the song/story.
Always one of my favorites
As much Jorma as my brother had in his collection when I was growing up, I don't ever remember hearing this lovely tune....but I have always loved his picking style.

Just heard it in the movie Transcendence last night and LOVED it.
Thought it was Ian Anderson and had to look. Not a slight on either artist. Nice.

Beautiful stuff ... forty years old.  I have a copy of this kicking around, but I haven't listened to it in many years.  Jorma's one of the great musicians of our time.
