When all the world is a hopless jumble
And the raindrops tumble all around
Heaven opens a magic lane

When all the clouds darken up the skyway
There's a rainbow highway to be found
Leading from your window pane

To a place behind the sun
Just a step beyond the rain

Somewhere over the rainbow, way up high
There's a land that I heard of
Once in a lullabye

Somewhere over the rainbow, skies are blue
And the dreams that you dare to dream
Really do come true

Someday I'll wish upon a star
And wake up where the clouds are far behind me
Where troubles melt like lemon drops
Away above the chimney tops
That's where you'll find me

Somewhere over the rainbow, bluebirds fly
Birds fly over the rainbow
Why, then oh why can't I?

Someday I'll wish upon a star
And wake up where the clouds are far behind me
Where troubles melt like lemon drops
Away above the chimney tops
That's where you'll find me

Somewhere over the rainbow, bluebirds fly
Birds fly over the rainbow
Why, then oh why can't I?

If happy little bluebirds fly
Beyond the rainbow
Why, oh why can't I?

The most beautiful version of this - much needed in the crap show of a world right now
I really don't like this song but it's still an 8 when Ella sings it.
Full marks for the song, but I never really cared for Ella's voice.
This is the stuff that makes RP so great

You nailed it, Mr/Mrs/Ms (?) Wind !
Some blessed genius pulled this rich 21st century re-master out of these tapes. Gorgeous.

I named one of my Hurricane Katrina rescue chocolate Labrador pups after dear Ella...her Mom was Bessie Smith!
Thank you so much, Ella. For all your music .... Love you so much!
a twee song can send shivers down my spine?
Dear God what a timeless voice

I adore Judy Garland's rare live version, I believe  in London in the 60's.  She sits on the edge of the stage and I along with many others cry.   Heartbreaking beautiful version.

Judy Garland - 'Over The Rainbow' Live (Ultra-Rare) ..... will get you there

Same here!  This is the BEST version that I have ever heard!

If an old  shoe fits…
I've been singing this a lot lately.
Fabulous  but I can think of at least two other versions I like even more. Believe it or not.
Off to dreamland
The basses on this arrangement are just lovely.
Wildly overplayed song, but as Ella’s singing it, it warrants at least a 7.
Man, the strings are just divine on this...
Ella!
Thanks for this one. I think over the last year or so we've purchased at least a dozen of her records. Wonderful.
From Queen to The Queen. Nice
Perfect launch into Friday night!
Friday's are beer, pizza, and records and this Friday's spins will be All Ella! How does Bill do it?
My wife and I are huge fans, thanks for playing such wonderful music.

No one comes close.

I can only assume you've never heard Kathleen Ferrier
Thanks for playing this occasionally.   Very nice to listen to in my home office with the snow coming down outside the window.

The divinity in Ella's superhuman voice really struts its stuff with this song.
Sooooo goood!!!

Idunno, i agree Ella's voice is perfect but there is a lack of emotion and phrasing when she tackles the emotional stuff. It's as if she "can read" but does not quite understand what she is reading

I'm gonna have to go ahead and sort of disagree with you there.

Bliss ...

I had the same thought.

Very fair. Beautiful but somehow too perfect.

Jazz voice...no arguement after the pedantry.
There's a "broadway-style" outfit coming to town in a few months, doing a Harold Arlen show. Kind of not my thing but I think we'll take it in anyway.

Just like Johnny Cash is the only soul on earth who can talk to me about my own personal Jesus, this is the only version of this song I can actually hear.

my co-workers must be shaking their heads. Earlier I was listening to Curtis Mayfield's "If There's a Hell Below..."

Awful!!!
Ella, you are stellar!
Think about the lyrics in terms of your own life and career. Inspires hope, positive thoughts and feelings. 'Why oh why can't I?' You can!
Just listen to how she slides up or down to the scored notes.  That's just tasty.
Good god!!!!!
This is just about perfect!
She sings it very, very well, indeed.

It just isn't my speed.
Ah, that voice...that voice...elegance, beauty and peace.

And I just looked at this set list..."wish you were here", "bring me home", "over the rainbow."  Particularly poignant today, as I learned this morning that an old friend passed away far, far, far before his time.
Never done better!
But Oz never did give nothing to the Tin Man

An angel, she was an angel!!

Even on this piece of schlock, Ms. Ella is perfection.

I know, I know, but she has such a wonderful portfolio, this isn't even in her top 20. But she does do it proud.

This is absolutely fabulous.  One of the most amazing voices of the 20th Century combined with one of the finest songs!  There is something about the finest singers of the middle of the 20th century (Fitzgerald, Sinatra, Crosby, etc.) that seems to be largely missing today:  singing so richly and so entirely without irony.  Each song by one of the greats is like a gem.

Amazing rendition. I feel for those that gave it a 2 or a 3. Me? I gave it a 9.

Some people simply have no soul, so to speak.  Ditto your 9.
I think if I get to heaven I'll be able to walk down the tree-lined street to a place with Ella singing this.
Oh my goodness. 10.
Working on the patio today. The sun is out and it's very comfortable. The day just went from really good to perfect.
What class!  Nice and refreshing to say the least!  Ahhhhhhhh!
Such a voice.
A 10 for the First Lady
Never heard this version before, but ... wow! Loved it.

Yep, Bill keep giving us good reasons to drink! And to own comfy leather chairs.
Whatta voice!

Second time in the last 30 minutes I've made this comment, but I LOVE Radio Paradise.
Not my cup of tea, but I never would have listened to it had it not been here.  For that... I'm appreciative.  Expanding my horizons.
Utter perfection!
