Hot sand on toes, cold sand in sleeping bags,
I've come to know that memories
Were the best things you ever had
The summer shone beat down on bony backs
So far from home where the ocean stood
Down dust and pine cone tracks

We slept like dogs down by the fire side
Awoke to the fog all around us
The boom of summer time

We stood
Steady as the stars in the woods
So happy-hearted
And the warmth rang true inside these bones
As the old pine fell we sang
Just to bless the morning.

Hot sand on toes, cold sand in sleeping bags,
I've come to know the friends around you
Are all you'll always have
Smoke in my lungs, or the echoed stone
Careless and young, free as the birds that fly
With weightless souls now.

We stood
Steady as the stars in the woods
So happy-hearted
And the warmth rang true inside these bones
We stood
Steady as the stars in the woods
So happy-hearted
And the warmth rang true inside these bones
As the old pine fell we sang
Just to bless the morning.

We grow, grow, steady as the morning
We grow, grow, older still
We grow, grow, happy as a new dawn
We grow, grow, older still
We grow, grow, steady as the flowers
We grow, grow, older still
We grow, grow, happy as a new dawn
We grow, grow, older still

Ben Howard is from a different planetary system. A galaxy far far away.

And? So what? Does that take anything away from either artist? Pretty much all musicians are "inspired" by other bands music. When ya get right down to it, many, many artists will even cite what bands/artists "influenced" their particular sound and/or, lyrics. Just enjoy hearing what is pretty much not heard anywhere else! Jeez!

Being such a literal rip off of Goodbye Blue Sky moves it out of "creative license" to uninspired and copycat  in my view.

I hear no real similarity with Goodbye Blue Sky.

You just CAN'T talk smack about Mr. Gilmore. At 77y.o., and still churnin out really good music, there's nothing negative to say about the guy!

Oh, geez! And, it's volAtile.

I was about to post about how much I enjoy BH's sound. But, I couldn't have said it any better than you did here! BH is quite a talented artist!

And flowers are not necessarily 'steady' either. Hmmm, maybe a greater message woven in here. Human perception? Regardless, still a 9 and a volume increase every playing.
For me, this is a song at once filled with fond nostalgia for the past and an optimistic excitement for the future.

No need to "catch on".  Like whatever you like and dislike whatever you choose.

Just do me a favor, OK?  If you dislike something, there's no need to work up a h8ter comment.
dig it

Beautiful but SUCH a blatant "borrowing" from Pink Floyd at the beginning (guitar and harmonies)...kind of annoying. It is a nice song, AND...
this song has grown on me, as has Mr Ben Howard. Great stuff and good Floyd tribute…

Personally, I think that's unlikely.  He's from England, where we don't have 'summer camp'.  More likely he went on camping holidays with his family.

Glad I'm not the only one who heard this in their head during the intro.

Ha!  Well... the NORTH STAR has been used for centuries for navigation ... so that would suggest that at least with regard to our own planet, the stars are indeed "steady".

Sounds similar or "inspired", especially the vocal adornments, but it's a different chord progression, not that that matters to most people here.

Me too - heard it straight off the bat. Thought it was going to be a slow motion cover.
Just at this particular moment, this particular song playing is like soft, warm rain on a dusty day. Thank you, Ben Howard. Thank you, Radio Paradise.

Everything is relative. Even the most stable person in your life is going through so many things, but the the most important thing is how hard they work to stay in your orbit (and vice versa).
Look, mummy. There's an airplane up in the sky.
Great imagery painted like a master. Ben Howard has created almost a classical piece as we hear the different movements. His lyrics recant the days I camped under the pines on a North Carolina island and enjoyed life, in a dream. 9

I too hear Goodbye Blue Sky at the opening of this tune every time it comes into the rotation.  That said, I still enjoy this Ben Howard song, though not at the same level as the aforementioned Floyd tune!

Good song, unfortunately, the rest of the album does not live up to this.  But he is awesome live.  Saw him open for Mumford & Sons.
This get's better every time I hear it.  Nice song.
