For some reason I keep expecting Mark Knopfler's voice to cut in at any moment. Very Brothers in Arms vibe to this.

Scrolling back I couldn't find any mention of Snowy White. There's a lot of Snowy White guitar work in this cut. Snowy is still at it, fantastic player. He and Peter made some wonderful music.

I don't know much about Peter Green sadly. When this first started playing I thought it might be Mark Knopfler on an outtake/minor track from the "Once Upon a Time in the West" area. Knopfler prefers a fuller, deeper sound to this, I think, but there's some resemblance.

Hi Rob, nice music you have on your channel ! Normally I don't send comments on the internet, in fact I've never done it before, not at all...but for once I would just like to put the record straight regarding who played lead guitar on the two versions of 'Slabo Day', as there seems to be some confusion about it, judging by all the things I've been reading over the years. Snowy White played lead on both versions. How do I know? Because I'm Snowy White. The original version is the one you have posted on your website as having 'Greeny in the lead'. (I wish he had, I'd have loved to listen to him rather than doing it myself). Peter invited me and my band to do the sessions for his album. The only reason this track is available is because I had taken a cassette of that first recording session, and later I put this version on my compilation album 'Goldtop'. If you listen carefully you can hear Peter saying to me, "Play some lead on this", just before he says to the recording engineer, "Take it this time". A few weeks later we went in and recorded it again, with me playing lead once more, which is the version that appears on the 'In The Skies' album. It would have been great if Peter had played lead instead of me, after all it was his album, but he was always very generous in so many ways and certainly he liked to share the guitar parts. Anyway, I've said enough, it's my first (and certainly last) post on Youtube, or anywhere else. Well, for what it's worth, you now have the true picture about 'Slabo Day'. Keep posting the great music of Greeny, he was the best.

I have the green vinyl version also - Just thought it strange they would use that version of the cover for the CD release. Been a fan of them for a long time but not so much for their later stuff. First saw them live in '71.

The name 'Fleetwood Mac' was first used for an instrumental track that Peter recorded with Mick Fleetwood and John McVie while they were still with John Mayall's Bluesbreakers, in some free studio time that John Mayall gave him for his 20th birthday. It stuck as a band name when Peter left the BBs to form the band the next year, although it was initially billed as "Peter Green's Fleetwood Mac featuring Jeremy Spencer"!
Peter Green was right up there with the very best British rock guitarists.

While I did know about Peter Green's connection to FM, I too checked out the info on this tune for its Knopfler-like sound, so there are at least a few of us who learned something today... A 9 for me.

I know this isn't Fleetwood Mac but never has there been a band that went from sooo good to sooo bad ( when Stevie Nicks and Lindsey Buckingham brought their nightmarish personal lives on board). Gone were the sublime days of Peter Green's guitar work and Doug Kerwin and Bob Welch's dreamy stuff and The McVie's efforts. Too bad such a good band was rebranded with the drivel that came from the bucknicks era…. My thoughts exactly …
