I had this damn song stuck in my head last night. It was running through my head as my eyes closed... it flowed through my dreams... and I was still listening to the lyrics in my head when I woke up. Particularly the line "bitching... complaining", over and over (and over).
A month ago (during my first vinyl shopping spree in years), I saw this double LP in the bins. Didn't get it, but it's cover intrigued me, the way covers in the 80s would intrigue me. I'd buy those, and discovered many an artist that way. Call me superficial. I looked up Cat Power on my phone (no less) in the store and read a review, and stewed on it. Read more reviews later at home. Decided the next day to go back and buy it. Very glad that I did. Came with a coupon to download mp3s of the album, so it's in iTunes as well as on the turntable. Several songs on this album are compelling. I understand that it's sound is very different than anything else she's done. I'll eventually acquaint myself with her back catalog. For now, I'm happy to have this nice collection of tracks to enjoy. Ruin is one of the best.
..she should try a bald look, a la Sinead..but so long as she keeps putting stuff like this out, i wont stress about it..
I really dig this song, and most of the others on the album, and I'm really glad that BillG is refreshing RP's playlist with mew music.

Yeah, you know, I really like this CD but reading some of the critics, especially the NYC critics, you'd think she was the greatest thing since John Lennon met Paul McCartney at that party in '59.
I guess it's the musical equivalent of a "homer" in sports.
Why would anyone give any sort of credence - or even attention - to any written music criticism? Sometimes it is difficult to avoid, however.
