So your mouth tastes like sunshine, baby, but your eyes are all cool buried in my arms
And the breeze takes us deeper and further into the heart of a moment that is gone

And the scent of your heartache, baby, and the taste of your blood, run within me
And there are red flowers in your spit when you enter my mouth under the bed, down on the floor

So take me under the floorboards; I would love to feel like wood
Take me back to the retards; cause the world just make me sick
There are colors in the air when I fall to the ground
How we'd love to fall more often

There's a band in our cellar, baby, and they're playing a song of the drunks in the street
And I can hear when they're playing their love songs cause the kids in the yard stop playing with their toys

So take me under the schoolyard, there are kids there who got lost
Their mouths all shouting asphalt and their bodies torn apart
There are colors in the air when I fall to the ground
I can sense a world of heartache,
but I love the sound
of your hair
when it falls down from the pillow late at night
On the brink of illusion, it's the devil in my eyes
Waiting for the moment to kill me inside
How we'd love to die more often

So take my hands, love, there's a burst inside our minds
Feel my hands, love, cause I'm numb from the neck down
And there is fire, love, on the balcony right here
I can see our bodies burn but sense no fear

And your mouth tastes like sunshine, baby, but your eyes are all cool buried in my arms
And everything matters for a second as we fall to the floor

Perhaps.
And perhaps this contrasts starkly with Lizzo changing the lyrics of one of her recent releases, upon learning that a term she used had a different meaning other english speaking countries. Perhaps it is worth recognizing that showing respect is worthwhile. Perhaps it is no threat to "artistic freedom" to inform someone of the consequences of their actions (even the unintended consequences).
Though, in fairness, this is hardly the forum where that can be done, effectively. It is extremely unlikely that the artist in question is going to see this thread, much less act on it.
Nevertheless. One does what one can, even if it only screaming into the void.

The band is from Copenhagen. Maybe the word doesn't have the same negative connotation? Or at least, maybe mildly negative?

That's not true, though, is it? There are lots of other words we can use to talk about people who have developmental disabilities that don't have the same degree of stigma attached to them. Or you can call kids retards. Despite what some commenters here seem to think, there's no language police that are going to stop anybody. There are just consequences for being rude and cruel because other people really don't like it.

Why do we think that that the singer is refering to "kids" or to "people who have developmental disabilities"?  Read the lyrics.  Does that seem like a foregone conclusion to you?

If he is, do we think there's derision here?  You do understand that "mentally retarded" in fact was the PC term created to be kind to people who were otherwise referred to as imbeciles, idiots, etc.?  It's just lost favor, as "developmentally disabled" also will over time, and people will think your own comment was written by some backward cretin who doesn't understand that "There are just consequences for being rude and cruel."

Some things give us due cause for outrage.  I would say this isn't one of those things.  If others disagree, that's fine, but I would say that they threaten artistic freedom at their own peril.

the lyrics are remarkable -with one startling exception-...
I like the reverb-y voices.  Feels like a live performance.
Just waiting for the millenial whoop to start...so very meh...

Oh, and as the father to a special needs kid...writing a song that includes the word "retards" refering to people makes me think that I'm not very interested in anything else that he has to say...
'Retards'? Not cool
Beautiful harmonising.
So sappy and oh so crappy.

EEEKS!   Words are powerful and this song scares the sh*t out of
me... (because) the violence and sadness is not immediately in your
mind's eye until you do focus on the lyrics... which are masterfully messy and
confusing, the words are a cocktail of dark backwash... tucked inside a tune that you almost start to hum along to ... before you realize!!! ... I don't think it's a happy little sing song folk! No Joke.

I Can't!  Words are powerful and this song scares the shit out of me.   (because) ... !!!
Take me back to the RETARDS!!!   Ruins the song & his talent.
Wow, not that far removed from Peter, Paul & Mary.
Well, except maybe for the "retards" lyric.
Retards? Wow. PC police are coming.
Take me back to the retards?  LOL!

I like this song a LOT...

What Lazarus said. Got lots of Mamas and Papas in it. And yes, some songs can make you happy for a while. This one does that to me. But some may say I am a bit of a retard.
I hate it when my ears key in on some incidental aspect of a song like the sound of the fingers sliding on the strings and suddenly it's the only thing I can hear in a song.
Perky, likable tune and the lyrics are an interesting read, most excellent in it's way
I don't get these singalongs

Doesn't even make sense though. I'm guessing there's a translation error responsible.

You think Paul Simon has sued them yet?  Listen to the tune without the lyrics, then listen to The Boxer.

It's a different chord progression than "The Boxer", and both songs are pretty common "folk" chord progressions anyhow.  If there were even a chance that Paul Simon could've sued them he would have vigorously done so long ago.

 Fair enough

Sounds nothing at all like the Boxer.

There is some similarity but Paul would lose that lawsuit. This song has its own raison d'être

I had it on low volume and thought it was a cover at first................
Please stop playing such outstanding tunes! I'll never get any work done like this. (I don't mean the first statement seriously, but the second one is in danger of coming true.)
Who can't love this song? Who cares about the lyrics. The harmonies alone do it for me.
That dog, an innate announcer and broadcaster!

I don't know what I think of these lyrics

Nice tune but when did song lyrics get sooooo weird?

I don't find most of the lyrics to be weird but they seem a little awkward in places, perhaps because English is not the first language of this band.  Musically, it does sound like Peter, Paul, & Mary or The Kingston Trio to me also, but this style of music existed long before those bands.  Anyhow, song lyrics got weird at least 45 years ago, especially once lysergic acid diethylamide became popular among musicians.
What horrible lyrics to a happy tune

Nice tune. I could give it a multiple listen. It's like an up-to-date blast from the past. The New Christy Minstrels had babies with Of Monsters and Men and the Mike Curb Congregation and Edwin Sharpe and the Magnetic Zeroes. Did I forget any thing or one? The Kingston Trio? Peter Paul and Mary? Feel free to chime in.

The Folksmen? The New Main Street Singers? Mitch & Mickey?

The Truth is in there...somehow. Definitely has a 60s feel like NCM or The Association. Catchy mix of old and new.
Joyfull ,lifeadmitting ring of reality on the pillow of comfort.

Bill's been playing this song quite a bit lately and I must say the more I hear it the more I like it.  Upped my rating:  8 > 9
The chord progression and guitar playing just injects a solid stream of happy into my brain.

Yeah, why can't we all just go back to a time when songs had simple lyrics, like Yellow Submarine?

No. Not really.
Reminds me of being 12 & listening to the transistor radio under the covers.  Early Kingston trio, or some frat group with ties and sweaters.  Does my seratonin level good.

Ha Ha.

There are several S&G sounding bands recently aren't there?  Kings of Convenience for one... but it seems that there are more.
not even remotely like Fairport Convention, even on acid!
solo singer's voice and style sounds so much like Steve Forbert.

I felt reminded of Alt-J by this tune. Came to the screen to see if this is so.

I'd go full retard and go to one of their shows.
An easy seven for now.
Nice throw back.  Long hair with guitar and NASA glasses, I'm feeling it.  Possibly a sweater.

They're from Albania. That's how the band got away with forcing a kidnapped and drugged Dylan to "play" the harmonica.

Great to hear them on here. And this is my favourite song off this album as well!

8.

Everybody in my church loves this groovy song...

Chad and Jeremy?
"take me back to the retards" ?!? really?  even if they are trying to be satirically complimentary, the word is offensive.  I hated that compilation of humorous/ironic whatever songs (including shatner)

I'm loving this song and the rawness of it.
This will be a welcome addition to the CD library.  Cheers, Bill.

IT'S FEB 3!
The Mike Curb Congregation and the Mamas and the Papas got it on with the Magnetic Zeros!

at first i thought its Simon &G ..
wow, where the hell did that come from?
Sounds like 60s folk music, but it is new!  Sounds good!
I wasn't sure what to think at first but it's growing on me.
Thanks Bill for adding this little gem to your rotation :)
Good sound.  Hope you play more.
