I know I'm five years too late, but I'm guessing you heard the original, by Vashti Bunyan, in a Samsung TV ad, which came out in 2011. That version was also in season 2 of True Detective and over the opening credits on Patriot, but those came later, and I'm guessing you didn't have a time machine in 2012.
(For those of you who don't remember, time machines weren't invented until 2023.)

Yes, I'm old enough, but, no, I don't remember the original by Vashti Bunyan. Because of your comment I had to Wiki Vashti Bunyan and Train Song.
