Thanks to my years of attending the Radio Paradise Academy of Musical Learning, I immediately recognized this voice as being Madrugada. Wrong! (but kind of right). Once again, I learned something new here.

Accordions! It could be MUCH worse with ACCORDIONS! I liked it today though when the RP playback went wonky and it switched intermittently between Soosgfart Hooymdrogem here and Pink Floyd "The Wall" finally settling on PF. Made me smile! The Floyd was there for me when I needed them, as always. It makes me wonder "How can you have any pudding if you don't eat your meat?"

I've said some unflattering things about Hoyem in the past but it occured to me as i was listening to this otherwise lovely ballad that he often swings for the fences with his music and that often times that creates a love/hate reaction from listeners. Bands/musicians who try to write popular music may accrue more fans along the way but there's still a lot to be said for the risk takers like Hoyem who lay it on the line.

I promote RP to my friends whenever I have the chance, but I will put a mental block on it for when I want to recommend it to my wife. If she hears Sivert Høyem she might get a crush on him... I am a straight man, but I am impressed (and secretly jealous) on his voice.

Had the sound on low in the background at the office.  Heard this song start, realized it was Sivert, and immediately had to put on the headphones and turn it up.  This guy's voice (and lyrics) is/are so emotive, haunting.  Love it.

There seems to be a few different currents running through the treads to Hoyem's music. On the one hand listeners are in love with his voice, others are unimpressed with the quality of the songwriting , and a third group (not altogether different than the previous group) thinks his music has run it's course on RP.

If indeed each of these camps is partially correct might it be possible to reduce his exposure by 1/3? I think that would be a fair and equitable solution.

You may well conclude that my distaste is a consequence of "passive listening". Not so, I'm afraid. I could likely sing you back most of the melody and a fair bit of the harmonies from memory. And I still find it boring.

Bill, obviously, you have a "man-crush" on Sivert!  The Madrugada live version of "Majesty" was really quite impressive and moving, for a while, till you played the hell out of it...  The last couple years, you've been playing anything and everything with his voice in it.  Problem is that he apparently doesn't know English very well and he can't write a decent song!  They all sound like some "wannabe" rock ballad from the '70's but without the lyrical message...  Just a bunch of nonsensical metaphors, loosely strung together, trying to make a rhyme here and there while he does his baratone warbling...  A great voice, but It just doesn't work like this...
