I think that was Jelani's point. Playing difficult music is laudable, but it's no substitute for playing good music.

The really tricky part is defining "good" music.  Surely that's a subjective judgment -  all music can be either good or bad, depending on the ears and brain of the listener.

Donovan uses this same technique to great effect.  Seen him a few times.  The last time was at a tiny hall at Kent State where he was solo and acoustic.
A bit heavy on harmonics?
This song is actually about my uncle.
I really enjoyed this one.  Great music.

Wow, a lot of haters for this pleasant little ditty. He isn't Michael Hedges, and it might be a bit long, but it's still a nice listen.
Twing !  For sure he is really technically adept but the sound he makes I find irritating. Twing ! there it goes again.
So he can strum the same three chords in a bunch of different ways? NEEEEEEEXT!
If you guys a are going to play this style of acoustic you really aught to be playing Preston Reed...
Great track - just drew me in.  Thought I had a broad taste in music but you're opening my mind up even more.
Nice flageolette!
Almost wanted to PSD this, but kept on listening. Gets better with every beat.
Omg, first time hearing this...fell in love :)

pretty good busking tune.  certainly does not rise to the normal level of excellence on RP.
Repetitive yes, but perfect for "in the zone" programming.
Perfect.... love the slide, the beat, the rhythm...
love this.... and in my mind.. seeing the Bristlecone pines...
perfect for this Sunday afternoon
definitely at ten
psd this annoying tune and listened to this instead:

Oh no, a Clear Channel station would play the same set 6 times a day.

November 7th, same set again
Trace Bundy — Bristleconedon't know about Cleat Channel station, but know about getting bored with repetiotion :D
strangely,  seems like this time most of the comments say the same
(normally I am the bored /annoyed one, and everyone else is singing praises to the loong song solos )

(still wouldn't change RP for any other station  {#Bananajam})

Guitar harmonics ...

these (harmonics) are a few of my favorite things.  and it's not easy to modulate them like this.
PS the brilliant Bill follows jimi hendrix with this additional guitar virtuosity. that's why they call him the brilliant Bill.

I think those are harmonics he's playing (lightly touching the strings on the guitar fretboard while strumming/picking to remove lower modes from the sound -- someone else can probably explain it better).
This picking of the very high notes does not suit my ear.  I would dearly love his talent, though.
Michael Hedges anyone? This is rather good though, although I'm a sucker for harmonics.
Very cool hot streak on RP.

No idea what it has to do with the song which is Ok I guess
He was also excellent on Married With Children.
I get fed up with this after very few moments..
Michael Hedges he is not.     PSD

Could just be an anti-harmonic phase I'm going through, but the excessive harmonics feel to me like a cheap gimmick in an otherwise enjoyable song.

Where has this little gem been hiding all my life?
This guy is so much fun to listen to, but if you get a chance YouTube his performances and watch him play as well...so brilliant!

Love this, some of the most awesome use of guitar harmonics I've ever heard!

The oldest living music on earth...........no, wait, that's the bristlecone pine.

quality quitar picking != good music

that said, I do like this particular example, but there are lots of guitar player's guitar players on RP that I don't enjoy (Sonny Landreth for one).
Was it worth?

OK, so I was in the mood for guitar, so that's great.  I just want to say, more artists should do their work justice by insisting on a nicer cover

I second that.  Maybe it's because I don't play musical instruments, but I can't really appreciate this (or other acoustic guitar soloists) and it gets irritating after a while.
I got a bushel o' talent.
Talent is talent

Quality guitar picking does not automatically make it interesting if you are not into single instrument solo music.  Personally, if I'm going to hear something with no vocals, then I would like it to have more than just one layer.  Give me guitar, bass, drums, and any other instrument you want to throw in there.

Yes, this sounds like there is a backing guitar, and maybe some half asleep dude on bongos.  Or maybe it's just Mr. Bundy on a stool in the studio.  I don't really care either way.  I can appreciate the talent, acknowledge the artistry, and still find the song itself to be uninteresting.

Loving this from Tel Aviv :)

Mom!  Mom!  Guess what we learned today in guitar class!!!  It's called harmonics!

...Oh wait, there aren't any more music classes in school anymore are there?
Sounds nice. Reminiscent of Michael Hedges (as pointed out earlier in this thread) and Billy McLaughlin. Worth checking out the latter, too.
Like this fingerpicking....  then check out Jon Gomm:  https://youtu.be/nY7GnAq6Znw

I've heard this one a couple of times now through my earplugs while riding my bicycle to work and loving this more and more! Great rhythm and all...
Well,

If you are talking performance vs. inspiration go listen to what Ewan Dobson does with a guitar. He does not consider himself a genius, but plays a decent manner.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=eXqPYte8tvc&feature=player_detailpage

He is very good, but for me lacks that certain something that takes it to say, Micheal Hedges level.

I do like the harmonic touches.

Overall I can't see myself listening/buying any of his stuff, maybe if were in the discount bin.
