Wake up straight
Caught out by the sun
On the first day of April

Out of bed
Thought it was a plane crash
But I'm sure that I was dreaming

Tv on
Of course caffeine
A science of submission again

Another day
On this little island
Just a bell hangs on

Porridge done
I take my kid to school
Pased the pound shop, Woolworth's

Under bridge
Where the subway sees the daytime
And the Westway flies by

Then on my bike
Down the Ladbroke Grove

To the forthcoming dramas

A studio
And a love of all sweet music
We just can't let go

Let go, let go, let go, let go

So meditate
On what we've all become
On a cold day in springtime

Civil war
Is what we were all born into
Raise your left hand, right, sing

Don't capitulate to the forces
Of the market place
They've long departed

Consolidate
The love we have together
On a cold day in springtime

Blur - always relevant and always appreciated… Excellent

Yup.  I can hear it.  But it evaporates immediately.
I really dig how the guitar solo at the end is so simple and so fun.

I'm thinking it reflects the current bad dream of this cold day of 2020 Covid-19 Madness. Bill's got his finger on the pulse.

Dreary mockney bollix.  PSD.

Absolutely love this song! 10/10

Genius
I like the lyrics, and the music matches it really. It’s clearly deliberate from him
Except I couldn't find my letter opener, I would have bust my ear drums after listening to this song.
The horrible rifts
Lotsa rear hurt around this song
Ian Dury was born in Harrow (btw) which is where I live in the Sunny North London - not far from Wembley Stadium. {#Yes}

He's got a similar accent - East End?  It would be nice to hear some Ian Dury on RP.

I think this is described as Mockney.  Posh boys pretending to be street.
boring company.....once in a while the accent is obvious, not like hoelottaluv

Which reminds me of when Watford FC, of which I've been a fan since kiddiehood (yeah, I know, we all have our crosses to bear), were playing Portsmouth, and a Watford player committed a nasty foul, to which the Pompey lot sang "You dirty Northern bastards!". Which made me laugh at the time :o)

No apology necessary. As Wilde wrote (The Canterville Ghost, 1887): "We have really everything in common with America nowadays except, of course, language."

Ha! Watford > dirty norther bastards. Priceless.

My daughter called me up the other day and she was very near Upton Park. . . which, as we all know, is the playing fields of the famous West Ham football team. I recall going there when I was a 17 year old hippy to see a match and spent the game in the stands surrounded by Dockers and skinheads all tooled up with blades, sticks and even an axe. They were the most frightening lot I have ever witnessed. Thank heavens I was wearing the Hammers colours or I don't think I would have got out alive. . .

Hmmm sounds to me like Madness after they've had a couple of spliffs too many.
A bit dreary. It's a rare 5 for me.

Blur, you are sorely missed.

The same nasal Sahf Lahndahn accent as Lily Allen, and just as annoying. Leave it aht, john, you're givin' me the bleedin' 'ump! Just shut yer Norf and Sahf and quit giving me earache. And use a few more sodding notes, ffs! This is seriously irritating

The only line that caught me ear was "a cold day in springtime".  Since it's the middle of April and snowing like crazy, a very appropriate sentiment.  Last year we ate all our meals outside from April 1st on...  not this year.
I don't care what you guys say, this guy knows how to write a damn catchy hook!

But this is tomorrow's song.  (edit: unless you're listening from a GMT +12 time zone)

I can't agree more....I think!

The Land of Best Forgotten.

Actually, Blur's put out some good music, but this song is the international anthem for self-bludgeoning with a hammer.

/whining. Blur is an English band, formed in London in '89.

Fred - you are indeed a cunning linguist - I know you've heard that before.

Where are these guys from?
Well, not bad, but not the winning tune I was hoping to hear before going home.  Ah well. Catch ya later.

Mein Gott in Himmel Fred, thats not your usual tolerant balanced approach! I ask you to think again my friend and just do the right thing and vote Blur, nicht Oasis!

Sounds kind of  like that Gooding tune.
That's for me!

{#Pray}
This sounds great!

Assuming this isn't a duh moment—since they're both essentially Damon Albarn. This song reminds me how much I miss Blur, my fave rave Brit pop band.

Heh, I just said "this doens't sound like Blur but it sounds like Damn Alburn - who is this?"

Lo and behold it's NEW Blur! :)

This sounds awesome, like Gorillaz.
It's been reported that we should have a brand spankin' new Blur album in 2011.
This sounds like Gorillaz

Nice, very nice.

From Stereogum 4/18/10 "Yesterday was Record Store Day, and 1,000 lucky blokes picked up this 7″, the first new Blur song in (appropriately enough) seven years. It was recorded in London weeks ago". Glad it made its way to RP.
