More Lanois, his first 2 albums are killer!
So glad my homie Daniel from Gatineau (Hull), Quebec, is finally getting his due.
Great album and sound. His work on producing Emmylou Harris' Wrecking Ball album in 1995 was just fantastic.

It is hard to warm up to any song that you first heard by the great Emmy Lou Harris, but this really is quite good.

Emmylou Harris did a spectacular version of this on Spyboy, which I think he also produced. It's a wonderful live album, one of my all-time favorites.

...and to clear up any further confusion: Hull does not exist anymore as it was subsumed by the city of Gatineau, which is where I now work. But Daniel grew up in Hamilton, Ontario, too

Saw him three nights ago at the Barbican (in London) with Emmylou Harris, performing the whole of the Wrecking Ball album. Absolutely stonking performamce, including of course this song. He did a 45 min support set before Emmylou and that was great too.
Compelled to elevate my rating to 9. The sound is so distinctive and he manages to bring out aspects that are not present in the Emmylou Harris and Julie Miller versions. Quite excellent.
This is a good version, made after the Emmylou Harris production. Vocal reminds me a bit of Nick Lowe...
A transparent spirit floats around me and inflicts a positive energy into my fibers whenever I hear this wonderful song.
Thought this was Mark Knopfler at first. Not so much after listening a little, but that was my first impression.

I have asked this question so often in my lifetime. A reflective time is always served when this song appears in the realm of my listening quarters. I really enjoy this song and it's atmosphere. Hopefully it leads to bigger and better things.

Thought I heard a bit of Dylan in his voice - pleasant surprise to find out it DL - it's been since 89 since acadie ? Goodness I must be getting old...when someone has made such a vast catalogue of such amazing material be it production of some of the most seminal music of (at least MY but dare I say OUR lives) it's hard not to feel we are just lucky to chill in his enormous shadow...
