Living with the Law Chris Whitley

Brother runnin' powder money
Daddy's somewhere on a drunk
In the hours, after washing
I do my dreaming with a gun

Well I come down from the country
Find a lesson in the draw
There ain't no secrets in the city
It's hard living with the law

They got machines, mama I can't figure
They got a romance made for doing time
Send me out child, running outside
Out along a world of crime

Gonna swing my scythe, got a hand upon the handle
Gonna shade my children ways I understand
Milk the trigger, kill the hunger
Staring down this broken land

So fetch on up your greasy apron
Spread your lover in the straw
Hear me baby, I'm nearly crazy
It's hard living with the law

Crap - He's dead? This totally sucks - what a talent wasted... And I only just found out about him... Well, on my list of CDs to buy. Too little, too late. Crap.

You just never saw him without a smoke dangling from his mouth, he died of lung cancer a few years back. He was an amazing musician.

Yep, saw that tour too, in Chapel Hil. There were maybe 40 people in the bar. He came up in conversation the other day, so underplayed, even here.
was a bit of an ass and got fired from my marriage. we(she) agreed that she would get the kids, house, car, bank acct, possessions, one(or unfortunately both) testicles. seemed fair at the time(except for the testicle part) all i wanted was some peace of mind and THIS album. thats it. to this day she's still pissed that i took the chris whitley.

So glad I got to see him play a couple times.  Once with his daughter singing backup on a couple songs.
Great guitarist, soulful vocalist, credible lyricist, 9!
It's been a long time hearing this song. 9! I'll play the entire CD today.
That`s a great song. Best one for a sea trip ;o)

Love this whole disc. Hate we lost ole Chris a couple years back.

Kick the Stones is a great rocker off of this disc.

First time. LOVE that guitar interlude. Kicked me right away - kid's got serious talent!  Betting this will be a 10 after a couple of listens.
Not a bad track on the disc. If you like this one, you'll love the album.
Yes, I'm glad to hear CW on RP. This song is a perennial favorite and has a permanent place on my MP3 player! Please, I'd like to hear more!

Hmmm...

Sounds like he's trying to sing along to a melody that he's only hearing for the first time.

He doesn't have a bad sound, but this song is a bit weak.
MORE CHRIS WHITLEY!!
