What was here now is gone
Up and down, like everyone
Walked the earth in lonesome cry
But when the sun comes up
When the sun comes up
It will be on your side
It will be on your side

To the song of wheels
All demons die
Rays of joy, they multiply
Harmony, you will be my bride
But when the sun comes up
I'll let out last breath
And slumber softly into the death

My half-breed odyssey
Your orphan prophecy
Our destiny we will not hide
When the sun comes up
When the sun comes up
It will be on your side
It will be on our side

When the sun comes up
I'll let out last breath
And slumber softly into the death

Sounds like Zorba the Greek on a bad acid trip.

Gogol has mass appeal??  Who could've imagined?

Watch the documentary "The Pied Piper of Hutzovina".  It may provide some enlightenment.  Love this.
This is hysterical.  Reminds me of the polish dude from "everything is illuminated" with elijah wood.

RROOFFLL!!

Bill's spoofin, right?

omg it's still playing!!?

when does it stop ...................

I like it.

8 from me.
2 -> 1 because, well, darn it, it just flat-out sucks.  Not that that's a totally bad thing but, well, it's good for eliciting 1s.

Come now, this cannot be news to YOU based on your ratings:

10 - Bob Dylan - Subterranean Homesick Blues
10 - Bob Dylan - Shelter From The Storm
10 - Bob Dylan - Lay Lady
10 - Bob Dylan - Like a Rolling Stone
10 - Bob Dylan - Positively 4th Street
The Fiddler on the Roof as Performed by the Inmates of the Asylum of Charenton Under the Direction of the Marquis de Sade
Makes me laugh...it sounds like something from Borat! Great!

Trust me...if you were forced to live through the excruciating wailing of an evening of live Thai/Laos country you would be begging Bill for more Gogol Bordello.

I don't see any particular advantage in developing a taste for the feculent.

I admit this is pretty weird.  But overall I like Gogol Bordello.  They are daring and willing to try something different.  Unfortunately, this is one of those times when it just doesn't work.
I love this guy.  He's like a dad when they've had enough beers that they have to belt out some songs from the Old Country.

Go see them live - they really know how to have a great time putting on an excellent show. . .

Strangely enough, the combination of the two works for me.  7.

I cannot imagine someone would bother to press the "record" button when this was played.
rate it what you will, comment as you like, but you have to admit, GB songs get more comments than most songs on RP, that has to count for something.
This is the first song I ever gave a "1". I would be delighted if I never heard it again in my life. But somehow this is what I love about RP...that I it will take a chance on bizarre things like this.
I'm not sure about this band, but I do enjoy how it makes all of you haters cry.  I'm breaking out the worlds smallest violin just for you.
Watching the documentary "The Pied Piper of Hutzovina" made me understand this band more.  I liked them anyway - it just added depth.
Someone recoreded a wrestling match.
I think Eugene Hutz is one of the sexiest people I have encountered. See Gogol Bordello live—they rock your world!

I am usually pretty quick on the Sucko-Barfo trigger, but there's something about this band that I like... maybe it's my eastern European heritage... the vocals are melodramatic to the point of being tongue-in-cheek, but the music is not bad, in a drunken street performer kind of way.  Sort of like Yanni after a year-long acid bender.

Maybe I am a sucker for punk rock (and all that implies) crossed with folk music... Flogging Molly comes to mind.
This truly sounds like a comedy version of some actual song. Come on, this is terrible. Like Weird Al doing a play on Neil Diamond.
And people bitch when Bill plays an Emerson Lincoln Palmer song... Gimme a break.

Not surprised about all the negative comments - I think it's a nice change.
this basically sucks!
no, please no  {#No}
"There are parts of the world where between bouts of prayer, fearing other cultures and blaming things on them"? Sounds like substantial parts of the United States.....

I'm pretty sure that this singer is Rob Schieder with a wig.

D—- it all to Hell.

The year was starting off so well.
Ugh, I can't stand this guy.
OMG...I CAN be a singer!
I think he knows how to play the guitar.... but can he please stop trying to sing
Starts off badly but is worth sticking with, IMO. Gogol Bordello are a fun band, and very much in the tradition of the 3 Mustaphas 3 and perhaps even Oi Va Voi. All very much tongue-in-cheek. 7 from the patient Nottingham jury.

Funny. I live in a part of the world where people live between bouts of prayer, fearing other cultures and blaming things on them, and worrying about the next outbreak of ethnic cleansing. And yet I don't know anybody really listening to GB. And I am really sick of stereotypes.

I suspect that I would really like this if I was a 17th century gypsy trolling across the Romanian countryside with a few dozen relatives  {#Bananasplit}

He has a great mustache like Earl Hickey. {#Biggrin}

Thanks to RP, my teenage boys and I are totally into this band...even rented "Everything is Illuminated" for more of Eugene.Let's hear "Start Wearing Purple" and my kids fave: "Undestructable"!  Maybe that will convert the doubters {#Beat}

Stupid and boring!

Your friend is still laughing.{#Iamwithstupid}
Someone lose a bet and this song had to be played?
This sounds like the Muppets.

I'll play the role of one of the codgers in the balcony. "Boo, get off the stage. It sounds like your adams apple is stuck in your nose and you smell like borchst. He He He."
It sucks

Not as badly as Pala Tute.

But it still sucks.
it's like a train wreck for the ears - you know you shouldn't be listening - but you do anyway, right?  {#Ask}

Maybe it is my eastern European heritage but for some reason I kind of like this, even though it sounds like the guy is kind of a combination of Freddy Mercury and Borat.

I was even more amused to find that the band was formed in the East Village in NYC, and was not really ethnic.

Somehow I think it would be a highly entertaining live show, anyone seen them?

The accent and the shtick are very authentic, and the shows are a good time for everyone.  Good luck not jumping up and down.  Do you have any idea how many ethnicities coexist in the East Village?  He might as well be Eugene Hutz Ching Vitello Koznowski.  Do some more research — the international thing is not a put on.

I think I know why we are all so conflicted about this band. The music is wonderful, who doesn't love Gypsy music?! The singers voice can be grating and the lyrics are, to be kind, a bit sophmoric. Therefore we have the mixed bag of feelings toward it. As for me, I will just keep listening to traditional Gypsy music.{#Yes}

I think Eugene Hütz, the singer is Bill's 1st cousin. Check the Wikipedia entry if you don't believe me. {#Shifty}

This my sister!  She #2 prostitute in all Khazakstan!

Seriously though, this is a joke.  I know this probably isn't true, but his accent sounds deliberate and put-on.

Just pretend you are drinking...kerosene...or Sterno...without filtering it...when you already have a bad hangover...that's just like this song.  You know its bad for you, but you kind of like doing it anyway.

Gogol Bordello, I just don't get it. To me, these guys are the most incredible bunch of musicians with the most eclectic sound I have ever heard. I simply l love them. Yet, close friends whom I share 99% similar music tastes cannot understand why I like Gogol. They can't stand them. Interesting to say the least.

That's how Gogol Bordello rolls I guess.

Great mid-day drinking music!
Wierd Gogol Yankovic. Bad craziness, as the man said.
If this song was just a little bit worse, it would be awesome.
Sounds like Andrei Codrescu is the lead vocalist.

Yanni / Borat influence...is hilarious. Especially since it's not supposed to be funny.
No, no, and more no.

It's way cool!!  Don't let the small musical minds get you down..
Glad I missed this
Wow.  This dude has Sideshow Bob feet.
Got give these guys props just for the band name: Ukrainian novelist + Italian whorehouse.

Yeah. That's what it is. {#Rolleyes}

yuck
You're right, I don't get it. This is the second song off this album today. Am I supposed to be laughing because he looks like Yanni and sings like Borat?
I laugh whenever this is played (which is alot lately). I don't know why people are being such haters. It certainly is fun!! {#Motor}
You people just really don't get these guys.  Understandable.
{#Meditate}
There are parts of the world where between bouts of prayer, fearing other cultures and blaming things on them, and worrying about the next outbreak of ethnic cleansing, people listen to a lot of music much like this. It is a bit scary. That said, Gogol Bordello is a fine addition to the RP mix. If there were any threat of predictability to ruining the gestalt GB certainly has the ability to keep things skewy.And the music is good.

No kidding. Who knew the lyrics he wrote for 60 revolutions per minute would turn around and bite him in the ass:

I'm gathering new generation
That's gonna stand up to it
To this karaoke dictatorship
Where posers and models with guitars
Boogie to the shit for beats
I make a better rock revolution
Alone with my d*ck!

Too bad he went with Rick Rubin instead of his d*ck.

Gypsy punk? "Punk" is a stretch for this one.

Awesome movie - the singer also was on the soundtrack.

From Nick Drake to this. The phrase “from the sublime to the ridiculous” could have been invented for this segway.

Nope.  Doesn't cut it.
