Well there's a ruckus on the levee
Unruly crowd on the courthouse steps
And if I make it to Sunday
I'm sho'nuff going to ask the good lord for help

With a mouthful of salt, I tried to explain
If money was sand, I couldn't hold one grain
Feel like a thief that knows he's been framed
For leaving the watch but stealing the chain

Good morning captain
I wish there was another way
But my baby is wantin'
Me to roll around in her bed all day

Well the late night's got me reeling
Spilling out the bottle right into the next day
Got a funny little feeling
Gonna be like this until my dying day

There's mud in my eye but I can still see
Everybody in town is trying to murder me
If they don't get me, s'pose the hangman will
I better think twice about making this deal

Good morning captain
I wish there was another way
But my baby is wantin'
Me to roll around in her bed all day

Magnolia, magnolia
Let me rest under the shade of your leaves

Good morning captain
I wish there was another way
But my baby is wantin'
Me to roll around in her bed all day

Good morning captain
I wish there was another way
But my baby is wantin'
Me to roll around in her bed all day

Try not to dismiss Chris on just one poor effort.  We all have bad days.  Or perhaps he has changed along the years.  I saw him and the Crowes several times in the 90s and he was absolutely electric.  I remember him asking the audience once:

"how many of you have been to a hootenanny?  Well, get ready, cause we are going to have a good old-fashioned hootenanny tonight!"

The crowd LOVED IT.  Great show.

yep. i've seen them several times. 90s, 00s, as well as his outfit with the Brotherhood. always a spectacular performance - but agreed, we can all have an off day/night. i still think their live performances are worth it on the worst nights.
i'm liking the new BC stuff, also.
I am hearing Little Feat..and, yes, the voice is Levonish, but not Levon's.
Great stuff. Any chance of hearing some of the fabulous Chris Robinson Brotherhood on here please?
Guess I like this better than most. Gave it an 8. Not my favorite song but so glad to hear The Black Crows on RP. Thank you.
YEEEAAAHHH!!! More Crowes!

And for the record, I saw Chris Robinson solo acoustic in San Francisco spring 2017, then Magpie Salute (Rick Robinson + other Crowes) in October 2017 in Jacksonville.

To compare the shows:
-Chris Robinson: bitched at the audience between each song, was overall very out of it and not trying to hard. Totally phoned it in.
-Magpie Salute: first class effort, great sound and great band live, to me Rich Robinson is the Black Crowes.

So go see Magpie Salute!

This album, compared to their earlier ones, took awhile to grow on me; once it did, it was like moss on the north side of a tree! Jamrock

Sounds so much like Levon Helm. A lawsuit might be possible. Or maybe it just honors a legend. Levon would probably approve.

One singer cannot be sued for sounding similar to another singer.  It's safe to guess that they are honoring artists like Levon and Little Feat with this number.  Their music has always been pretty traditional "roots rock" anyhow - they sound like a lot of other bands.
God bless y'all, magnificent
This following Alison Krauss's Choctaw Hayride was a great transition.  Bravo, Bill!

It is Levon Helm. Unmistakable presence. RIP, Levon.

So much soul, I just love this band.  What more is there to say?

OK, just thought of something...  Only 4 songs in the rotation?  RP should play more BC.

These guys just don't do it for me. Never have.

I recently saw the North Mississippi All Stars at a free concert. Talented musicians, for sure, but I just could not get into the actual music or the show. I didn't know anything about them, so I looked up some info on my phone and sure enough, "Luther Dickinson, recently of the Black Crowes". And there you go... Just not my thing.

Your really scratched-the-surface on the way to this conclusion.
one of the better offerings from BC

I thought that was a whig.  I recall seeing him in a "non-Kangaroo" capacity on TV and his hair was shorter, lighter and thinning.
Yes, yes! This record has some real rockers on it! There's also that cut -- 'Been A Long Time,' I think, where they out-Creedence CCR!

With Luther Dickenson (North Mississippi Allstars) on guitar it gives them a different sound. The whole album is great.

No Southern Roots Rock = No Black Keys: your pick for recording of the year 2010. Agree with horstman, make a visit. We put up with stranger folks than you everyday.

OK - I could see Little Feat, the greatest band of all!  Nice!
Initially thought this was a Jimmy Buffet song I had not heard! Love it none-the-less :)
I didn't like this song the first time I heard it (long, boring explanation deleted), but now, I'm really taken with it. The Crowes, for all their sibling-animosity and egos, come through in the crunch, and for me, this song proves it.  {#Dancingbanana_2}

Oh Stingray, you need to come over to the U.S. and experience the southern rock experience firsthand. It is alive and well. Example: How about My Morning Jacket?

The Crowes have really found themselves of late. They did an acoustic set on Palladia a couple of years ago and it is still one of my favorites.

Glad you finally saw the light with Porcupine Tree!!! Welcome to the fold. Oh, and I like ALL CAPS. It is expression and who knows, maybe you're an engineer/architect at work who forgot to turn them off. Wouldn't be the first time for me.

Peace. Horstman
wow... The Black Crowes ... now if they did more like this ... I could finally make an album of just them... but it would take at least 5 or 6 more as good as this.
YES, the CROWES are good indeed,

I recently looked at RP's playlist of the 'Black Crowes' and I could not disagree with anything so profoundly?.... I personally have spent more time than I am happy with deciding weather ' Southern Harmony' or 'Amorica' is the better album and as I sit here I am still undecided?  There are ten times better 'Crowes' songs!!!.... But not better 'Heads' songs..................perfect
This Cut...Unmistakable "Little Feat" The greatest band that never had a hit!
I know several said Little Feat, but I'm hearing "Tennessee Jed".

I ranked it high despite the same thought. It is a good groove regardless. I was thinking as I was perusing the wiki entry that Levon would be happy to have this in his lexicon.

Totally agree about seeing them live...its a blast and you don't sit even if you have a seat.  I saw them with Jimmy Page back in 2000 and even with Page being totally wasted, they still put on one hell of a show.

"There's a ruckus on the levee," indeed!  This represents the continuing evolution of the Crowes at their crunchy, nuggetty, bluesy best.  Can't beat it.
